Senior Security Engineer, Threat Detection and Response

Accountabilities: The Senior Security Engineer will be responsible for detecting, investigating, and responding to security threats while helping build scalable cybersecurity capabilities. Key responsibilities include:

Conduct detailed security investigations using digital forensics, data analysis, and incident response techniques.

Apply coding, analytics, and investigative skills to identify threats, uncover malicious activity, and improve detection processes.

Design and develop automation workflows, detection models, and security solutions to identify and mitigate threats at scale.

Proactively hunt for threats across corporate and production environments.

Partner with engineering teams to design advanced detection capabilities and support complex security investigations.

Identify visibility gaps within infrastructure and collaborate with stakeholders to improve logging, monitoring, and detection coverage.

Work with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Privacy, and Engineering, to coordinate effective incident response.

Help define and execute the strategy for threat detection and response capabilities.

Mentor teammates and contribute to improving security practices, processes, and operational maturity.

Support continuous improvement of security tooling, workflows, and response procedures.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate has strong experience in security operations, threat detection, and incident response, with the ability to operate independently in complex technical environments. Required qualifications and skills include:

5+ years of hands-on experience in security operations, including incident response, investigations, incident management, digital forensics, threat intelligence, threat hunting, and/or detection engineering.

Strong programming or scripting experience in Python or another scripting language.

Experience using SQL and data analysis tools such as Pandas.

Proven ability to automate security detection and response processes.

Working knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks including the Cyber Kill Chain and MITRE ATT&CK.

Experience analyzing threats and developing solutions to improve security visibility and resilience.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage complex investigations.

Ability to influence technical decisions and collaborate effectively across teams.

Calm and effective approach when handling high-pressure security incidents.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.

Preferred experience with Elasticsearch and AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS.

Compensation of $140–$160 per hour on a W2 basis.

Full-time schedule of 40 hours per week.
