Linux & Private Cloud Engineer
Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced Linux & Private Cloud Engineer to manage, support, and maintain enterprise Linux infrastructure and private cloud platforms. The role will involve server administration, private-cloud infrastructure management, virtualisation, automation, monitoring, security, troubleshooting, and production support. The successful candidate should have strong hands-on experience with Linux operating systems, virtualisation technologies, private cloud platforms, networking, storage, and infrastructure automation.
Key Responsibilities: Linux Administration Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers, primarily RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux, or Ubuntu. Perform server provisioning, patching, upgrades, hardening, and performance tuning. Manage Linux users, groups, permissions, SSH, services, processes, filesystems, and storage. Troubleshoot OS, application, resource utilisation, and connectivity issues. Analyse system logs and perform root-cause analysis. Implement backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery procedures. Ensure Linux systems comply with enterprise security and operational standards. Private Cloud Infrastructure Deploy, administer, and maintain private cloud infrastructure and platforms. Manage virtual machines, compute resources, clusters, resource pools, templates, and virtual networks. Support private-cloud provisioning, scaling, capacity management, and lifecycle management. Monitor infrastructure health, availability, capacity, and performance. Perform infrastructure upgrades, migrations, patching, and maintenance activities. Support high-availability and disaster-recovery environments. Troubleshoot private-cloud infrastructure issues across compute, network, storage, and virtualisation layers. Virtualisation Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi, Nutanix AHV, KVM, or equivalent virtualisation platforms. Manage virtual machines, clusters, hypervisors, snapshots, templates, and resource allocation. Troubleshoot VM performance and hypervisor-related issues. Support VM migration, consolidation, provisioning, and capacity planning. Work with virtual networking and distributed switching environments. Storage & Networking Good understanding of enterprise storage technologies including SAN, NAS, NFS, iSCSI, and virtual storage. Troubleshoot storage capacity, performance, connectivity, and availability issues. Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, load balancers, and network connectivity. Support virtual networking within private-cloud environments. Work closely with network and storage teams to resolve infrastructure issues. Automation & Infrastructure Management Develop automation scripts using Shell/Bash, Python, or PowerShell. Automate server provisioning, configuration, patching, monitoring, and routine operational activities. Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar automation/IaC tools. Maintain configuration standards and infrastructure documentation. Use Git or equivalent source-control platforms where applicable. Monitoring & Operations Monitor infrastructure availability, capacity, performance, and utilisation. Work with monitoring and logging tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or equivalent. Respond to infrastructure incidents and service requests. Perform incident investigation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis. Participate in change, problem, and incident-management processes. Support production environments and participate in on-call activities when required.
Required Technical Skills: Strong hands-on Linux system administration experience. Experience with RHEL / CentOS / Rocky Linux / Ubuntu. Strong knowledge of Linux processes, services, filesystems, storage, networking, and security. Hands-on experience with private cloud or enterprise virtualisation environments. Experience with one or more: VMware vSphere / ESXi Nutanix AHV OpenStack KVM OpenShift / Red Hat private cloud Good understanding of compute, storage, virtual networking, and hypervisor technologies. Experience with Ansible and/or Terraform. Good scripting knowledge in Bash/Shell and/or Python. Strong troubleshooting and production-support experience. Understanding of enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability concepts. Good-to-Have Skills Experience with Nutanix, VMware, OpenStack, or Red Hat OpenShift. Experience managing large-scale private-cloud environments. Knowledge of Kubernetes and container platforms. Experience with Ceph or other software-defined storage technologies. Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices. Experience with infrastructure monitoring and observability platforms. Linux certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE. VMware, Nutanix, or OpenStack certifications. Exposure to public-cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline. 4–8 years of relevant experience in Linux, infrastructure, virtualisation, or private-cloud operations.
