We are partnered with an established organisation that is investing in its internal engineering platforms. The aim is less manual operations work and more self-service for technology teams.
You will internal platform products from first idea to live operation. You will also stay close enough to the code to set the engineering standard. It suits someone who enjoys building software and running reliable systems, and who wants their work measured by real adoption.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, coach and grow a team of site reliability and software engineers. Set the standards for code quality, reviews, testing and documentation.
- Own a set of internal automation products. Shape the roadmap with business and technology stakeholders, drive adoption, and track reliability and efficiency.
- Design and build full-stack tools, APIs and reusable services that turn manual operations tasks (deployment, recovery, routine work) into automated, self-service workflows.
- Run the platforms on containerised private cloud infrastructure. Own observability, performance, incident response and root cause analysis.
- Lead architecture and design decisions, including integration patterns and API standards.
Requirements
- 8 years in software engineering, including leading engineers or major technical initiatives
- Strong full-stack development: a Python web framework (Django preferred) and a modern front-end framework (Angular preferred)
- Experience building APIs, microservices and enterprise applications
- Hands-on with Kubernetes or OpenShift in private cloud or on-premise environments
- Solid DevOps and CI/CD practice, plus monitoring, logging and reliability engineering
- Confident working with several stakeholder groups in a large organisation
- Nice to have: has built a platform or product from scratch; Terraform or Ansible; Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Dynatrace or Datadog; a background in enterprise infrastructure and operations
- Degree in computer science, engineering, IT or a related field
