About Ziti Foundation:

Ziti Foundation is a social impact organisation committed to unlocking opportunities for underserved communities through education, technology, workforce development, youth empowerment, and sustainable social impact initiatives. We work with donors, corporate partners, philanthropic organisations, governments, and development agencies to design and deliver programmes that create measurable and lasting change.

Role Overview:

The AI Engineer Tutor will contribute technical expertise and facilitation to help learners understand, build and apply AI systems. The volunteer may support practical training sessions, guide learners through projects, and help translate technical concepts into real-world capability, based on agreed programme needs and availability.

This opportunity is suited to someone with practical AI engineering experience who is willing to share knowledge, support learners and make complex technical concepts accessible, engaging and useful.

Key Responsibilities:

Training Design & Delivery

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of practical AI engineering sessions on topics such as Python for AI, machine learning fundamentals, large language models (LLMs), RAG architectures, AI agents and workflows, and deployment/MLOps, as agreed with the programme team.
  • Adapt explanations and learning activities to suit the learners' experience levels and learning needs.
  • Support practical sessions such as live coding, hands-on labs, project work and technical discussions.
  • Where agreed and feasible, contribute to learning materials such as slides, code notebooks, exercises, datasets and project briefs.

Learner Support & Technical Mentorship

  • Provide explanations, code review, debugging support and technical guidance to learners, within the scope of the volunteer engagement.
  • Mentor learners as they work on practical AI projects, encouraging sound engineering practices and real-world thinking.
  • Help learners understand how AI tools and workflows may be applied in relevant industry or functional contexts.

Content Excellence & Innovation

  • Where contributing learning materials, help keep content current with relevant AI tools, models and good practices.
  • Share relevant real-world use cases, examples and implementation insights where appropriate.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and supportive subject matter contributor during agreed programme activities.

Programme Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the relevant Ziti Foundation programme, delivery or curriculum teams to help ensure sessions are well-scoped and aligned with learning outcomes.
  • Share observations and learner feedback with the programme team to support continuous improvement.
  • Represent Ziti Foundation professionally and respectfully in learner, partner and other agreed interactions.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

AI Knowledge & Expertise

  • Strong, practical experience as an AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, or Software Engineer with an AI focus — you have built and shipped AI systems, not just studied them.
  • Proficiency in Python and core AI engineering stack: ML frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow), LLM tooling (e.g., LangChain/LangGraph, OpenAI / Anthropic / open-source models), vector databases, APIs, and Git.
  • Experience with RAG systems, agentic workflows, or fine-tuning, and an understanding of deployment and MLOps fundamentals (cloud platforms, Docker, CI/CD concepts).
  • Deep understanding of how AI engineering applies in real business contexts and the ability to ground technical training in practical value.
  • Awareness of ethical dimensions of AI, responsible AI development, and data governance, and ability to facilitate grounded conversations around risk.

Training & Facilitation

  • Proven experience delivering technical training, tutoring, or mentoring in professional, academic, or alternative education settings.
  • Confident, engaging facilitation style with the ability to make complex topics clear and memorable.
  • Skilled at designing structured, hands-on learning experiences from scratch, not just presenting slides.
  • Patient, supportive, and learner-centric — able to give actionable feedback that helps learners improve quickly.

Volunteer Commitment & Collaboration

  • Able to contribute on a flexible basis, with availability and responsibilities agreed in advance for each programme or activity.
  • Reliable, organised and responsive, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Able to work independently while following agreed programme guidance, safeguarding expectations and Ziti's quality standards.
  • Experience in consulting, EdTech, learning and development, or community-based training is an advantage.
