Are you an experienced finance professional with a background in the construction industry? Looking for a role where you can take ownership, work closely with the Managing Director and play a key part in the ongoing success of a growing business?

We're working with an established and growing construction business based in Caterham that is looking to appoint a hands-on Finance Manager to take responsibility for its day-to-day financial operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being involved in all aspects of finance, is confident working independently and can provide accurate financial information to support business decisions, cash flow management and continued growth.

The Role – What You'll Be Doing

You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function, with duties including:

  • Managing the day-to-day financial administration, accounts and reporting.
  • Overseeing CIS administration and processing subcontractor payments.
  • Managing payroll and associated employee administration.
  • Monitoring cash flow, preparing budgets and producing financial forecasts.
  • Managing supplier accounts, purchasing and procurement activities.
  • Monitoring project costs, margins and overall profitability.
  • Preparing and finalising applications for payment.
  • Managing retention records, tracking outstanding amounts and monitoring release dates.
  • Processing subcontractor timesheets, expenses and associated payments.
  • Monitoring sales and purchase invoices, payments received and outstanding balances.
  • Liaising with the external accountant and providing regular financial updates and reports to the Managing Director.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting.

About You

We're looking for someone who is commercially aware, highly organised and comfortable taking ownership of a broad finance role within a busy construction environment. Ideally, you'll bring:

  • AAT Level 3 or Level 4 qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ideally 3–5 years' experience in a finance role within the construction industry, preferably with a subcontractor.
  • Strong working knowledge of CIS, construction VAT and payroll.
  • Experience using accounting software (Xero) and managing day-to-day financial processes.
  • The ability to prepare accurate cash flow forecasts, budgets and project profitability reports.
  • Practical experience with applications for payment, retentions and variations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • The confidence to work independently, manage priorities and communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.

Most importantly, you'll be proactive, dependable and happy to roll up your sleeves and get involved. You'll enjoy being the person who keeps things organised, spots potential issues and ensures the business has the financial information it needs.
