Costs Lawyer - Personal Injury

Cardiff | Hybrid - 1 day per week in the office | Permanent

A growing legal team in Cardiff is looking to appoint an experienced Costs Lawyer to join its specialist Personal Injury offering.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of a varied costs caseload while working closely with experienced fee earners and Partners across the wider litigation team.

And the hybrid set-up is a genuine selling point, you'll only be required in the Cardiff office one day per week, giving you the flexibility to work predominantly remotely while still having regular face-to-face time with the team.

You'll have a high degree of autonomy in the role, with the opportunity to contribute not only to individual matters but also to the continued development of the firm's wider costs function.

What will you be doing?

• Managing a varied caseload of costs matters arising from Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence claims
• Preparing Bills of Costs, Costs Budgets, Precedent H documentation and other costs-related paperwork
• Dealing with Points of Dispute and Points of Reply
• Advising fee earners and Partners on costs strategy, budgeting and recovery
• Negotiating costs with opponents, third parties and costs specialists
• Supporting matters through detailed assessment and relevant hearings where required
• Providing technical costs guidance to colleagues across the team
• Helping develop and improve internal costs processes and best practice
• Working with a high degree of independence while remaining part of a collaborative wider legal team

What are they looking for?

We're looking for a qualified Costs Lawyer with solid experience handling costs work within Personal Injury and/or Clinical Negligence.

You'll ideally bring:

• Strong knowledge of costs law and procedure
• Experience with costs budgeting, recovery and detailed assessment
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
• Confidence advising fee earners and Partners on costs strategy
• Strong organisation and attention to detail
• The ability to manage your own caseload and work autonomously
• A collaborative approach and good communication skills
