Your tasks
Ensure that structures serve their function without collapsing, bending, twisting in undesirable ways. To make efficient use of costs and materials to achieve these structural goals.
Tendering
- Checking of specification requirements for the project, taking note of the standards, regulations/ Code of Practices, etc.
- Reviewing the Performance Criteria and any special requirements, such as load factors for brackets and anchors.
- Sizing structural system, such as mullion, transom, bracketing as well as supporting steel frame.
- Provide options for value engineering.
- Prepare preliminary calculation for tender submission.
Shop drawing submission
- Wok closely with designers and work out feasible and cost effective structural system.
- Provide alternative proposals for value engineering.
- Thoroughly checking member sizes and connection details. Advise designers to adopt alternative connection details to reduce member and bracket sizes.
- Provide calculation report for submission to consultants and BCA for approval.
- Reply consultants' and BCA's comments, clear their doubts with documents, rebut their unreasonable demand diplomatically with the knowledge of standards and codes.
- Attend meetings with clients, consultants and contractors. To answer queries and explain our design consideration. Liase with professional engineer for technical assisstance and report endorsement.
Site works
- Provide alternative connection details due to site conditions, such as the structure out of tolerance.
- Visit site to verify the structural system integrety. Provide advice to site personnel how to strengthen the structure.
- Advise material replacement due to material availability and site urgency.
- Prepare remedial work calculation for submission.
- Reply consultants' comments of site modification work.
Coaching of the designers
- Educate designer of the basic structural knowledge.
- Advise designer of basic concept of better structural system.
- Provide designer with different mechanical properties of different materials.
- Propose a feasible and cost effective structural system.
