About the role and the Xomnia culture At Xomnia, we don’t just build models, we build intelligent solutions that solve real energy challenges. As our ‘AI for Energy & Utilities’ Practice Lead , you won’t be sitting on the sidelines. You’ll be the technical heart of our energy & utilities practice: working directly with clients on demand and generation forecasting, grid optimisation, predictive maintenance and agentic AI solutions, challenging them to think bigger, and making sure our specialists have the expertise and direction to deliver real impact. We work on projects that help shape a more sustainable and reliable energy system. Our culture thrives on curiosity, shared ownership, and the courage to challenge assumptions. We value people who combine technical depth with hands-on impact, enjoy experimenting, sharing knowledge, and building lasting relationships with clients.
Are you ready to take on this challenge? The energy sector is changing fast. Grid congestion, the growth of renewables, electrification, and volatile energy markets are putting pressure on how energy companies and utilities operate, and AI is becoming key to keeping the system balanced, efficient, and affordable. Xomnia is building focused practice areas to become the go-to partner in specific markets, and energy & utilities is one of them. As ‘AI for Energy & Utilities’ Practice Lead, you are the expert our clients and colleagues turn to when it comes to AI in energy. You bring the technical credibility to design solutions that make it to production, and the consultancy experience to translate energy and utilities challenges into the right approach. From there, you help shape what our energy & utilities practice stands for and how it grows. You don’t need to have built a practice before: your technical and consulting expertise is the foundation, and we’ll support you in growing into the business side of the role. You will be part of our AI team and you’ll work closely with our unit lead, delivery teams, sales, and cross-functional colleagues to ensure our practice delivers measurable impact both externally and internally.
Your role Your responsibilities will revolve around four areas: Client consulting & delivery
You are active as a consultant on client engagements within the energy & utilities domain. You act as a senior sparring partner for clients throughout the project lifecycle, from discovery to production. You translate energy and utilities challenges into AI and machine learning solutions, design the technical approach, and stay close enough to the work to roll up your sleeves when needed. Your hands-on client work keeps your knowledge sharp and your credibility real. Technical leadership & capability building
Guide our machine learning engineers and data scientists on energy & utilities engagements: reviewing solution designs, challenging technical choices, and spotting risks early. Develop reusable methodologies, accelerators, and proof-of-concepts for use cases such as load and generation forecasting, grid optimisation, predictive maintenance, energy price forecasting, and agentic AI. Drive knowledge sharing and R&D initiatives that raise the bar for how we work. Practice development
Help shape Xomnia’s point of view and propositions for AI in energy & utilities, together with our unit lead. Bring in what you learn from client work to keep our offering sharp and relevant, and contribute to how we share our expertise through cases, blogs, events, and partnerships. Commercial & presales support
Support commercial pursuits with your technical and domain expertise: scoping client needs, designing solutions, contributing to proposals, and building demos or proof-of-concepts. Collaborate with the sales team so that what we propose is technically sound and deliverable.
What you bring to the table 5+ years of hands-on experience as a machine learning engineer or data scientist.
Consultancy experience within the energies & utilities sector: you have worked in a client-facing role, translated energy & utilities challenges into AI and data solutions, and managed stakeholder expectations in complex organisations.
A strong technical foundation: you have brought ML solutions from prototype to production, and you can credibly discuss model architecture, MLOps, and AI system design with both engineers and clients. Experience with Python, a major cloud platform (Azure, AWS or GCP), and modern ML tooling is expected.
Strong knowledge of data & AI applications in energy & utilities: load and generation forecasting, grid and asset optimisation, predictive maintenance, energy trading, agentic AI, and beyond.
Hands-on experience with, or a strong interest in, GenAI and agentic AI solutions.
Experience working with time-series, sensor or IoT data at scale is a strong plus.
Excellent communication skills: equally comfortable with engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
A culture of sharing: you bring ideas to the table, develop others, and make the team around you stronger.
Experience supporting proposal development, thought leadership (writing, speaking, presenting), or building internal capabilities is a plus.
Fluent in English and Dutch is a must.
What’s in it for you? We offer more than a job, we offer a platform for growth: A monthly salary between €5.650 - €8.000 excl. vacation allowance, Profit Bonus and KPI Bonus (commensurate with experience)
€5.000 annual development budget
