Head Legal Cashier
An established legal practice is seeking an experienced Head of Legal Cashiering to lead its accounts team. This is a hands-on role combining oversight of daily cashiering operations with responsibility for financial controls, compliance and team development. This is a full time office based role near Dartford Key responsibilities:
Cashiering and accounts Oversee the day-to-day work of the cashiering team, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and on time. Maintain client and office account records, complete reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Process receipts, payments, transfers and disbursements in line with legal accounting requirements. Support colleagues with billing and credit note queries. Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers and petty cash. Support payment collection and credit control activity. Financial management and compliance Prepare VAT returns and support the annual audit process. Assist with management accounts, financial reports and analysis. Help maintain effective financial policies and procedures, identifying improvements where appropriate. Support credit control and debt recovery processes. Ensure the accounts function follows relevant regulatory and compliance requirements. Team leadership and communication Manage and support the accounts team, allocating work and overseeing training and development. Provide day-to-day guidance and promote consistent quality standards. Act as a point of contact for financial queries from colleagues. Liaise with senior management and external finance professionals on accounting matters. Help colleagues resolve billing and financial queries relating to client matters. About you You have substantial experience in legal cashiering, ideally in a senior or supervisory role. You understand the requirements for handling client money and maintaining compliant legal accounts. You have experience with reconciliations, VAT returns, audit preparation and financial reporting. You have managed or supervised an accounts team. You are confident using legal accounting systems and Excel. You are organised, accurate and able to manage competing deadlines. You communicate financial information clearly to colleagues with different levels of financial knowledge.
