As WPP Media Benelux (Sr) Risk and Controls Analyst, you are a crucial link within the team. You support the Risk & Controls Lead in continuously improving the organization's internal control environment. This role is strongly operationally focused: the emphasis lies on the daily execution and maintenance of internal controls, compliance activities, and ensuring adherence to policy within WPP Media Benelux.
You make an important contribution to anchoring a culture of ethics and integrity. You do this by accurately describing control measures, actively validating their operation, and acting as the primary point of contact for internal questions regarding SOx and internal policy. With your precise, analytical, and proactive way of working, you provide essential support in building and maintaining a strong Risk & Control framework within a dynamic media landscape.
You are part of the international Risk & Controls team and report directly to the WPP Media Benelux Risk & Controls Lead. Your main goal is to provide hands-on support throughout the entire risk cycle: from maintaining and validating documentation to performing control monitoring, audit coordination, and supporting remediation actions. You are eager to learn, detail-oriented, and energized by translating complex requirements into practical, well-executed control activities for the WPP Media BeNeLux control landscape.
What will you do?
- Internal control documentation & maintenance: You are responsible for maintaining and regularly updating control descriptions, narratives, and flowcharts for financial, operational, and compliance controls within WPP Media BeNeLux.
- You ensure that all documentation strictly aligns with the overarching WPP Internal Control Framework and consistently meets the required standards for evidence. Additionally, you support the integration of controls into new or modified business processes and systems. In doing so, you make intensive use of the WPP Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) tool (Impero).
- Control monitoring & validation: As part of the second line of defence, you perform quality reviews and control monitoring programs. You actively validate the operation of internal controls by collecting and assessing evidence. You also support the coordination and initial assessment of self-certifications and discuss any deficiencies with the Risk & Controls Lead to reach a sound solution.
- SOx & policy support: You act as the central point of contact within the Benelux for daily questions regarding Sarbanes-Oxley (SOx) compliance and the internal policies of WPP and WPP Media. You provide clear and concise advice to stakeholders and support communication regarding policy changes and new control requirements within the organization.
- Audit support & tracking of remediation actions: You provide practical support in coordinating audit activities for the Netherlands. This includes collecting documentation for both internal and external audit teams. You closely monitor the progress of remediation plans for all audit findings (SOx, WPP Internal Audit, and external auditor) and work together with process owners toward timely resolution.
- Contribution to continuous improvement: Based on your daily operational experience, you proactively identify and propose process and control improvements. You support the implementation of new technologies and innovations (such as developments in GRC tools) and assist with data analyses for strategic initiatives aimed at streamlining and standardizing processes.
Who are you?
- Education & Experience: You have a completed HBO or WO degree in the field of Risk Management, Business Administration, Accountancy, or a similar study, supplemented by at least 3 years of practical work experience in a role related to internal controls, internal/external audit, compliance, or process improvement.
- Knowledge: You are well acquainted with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOx) compliance requirements and general accounting principles (such as IFRS).
- Skills: You possess an exceptional eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and demonstrable experience in effectively documenting processes and control measures.
- Communication: You have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to clearly convey technical and complex information to various types of stakeholders.
- Tooling & Language: Experience with GRC tools (e.g., Impero) or similar management systems is a plus. Excellent command of the English language is a requirement.
- Your behavior & qualities:
- Detail-oriented & Analytical: You work methodically and accurately to ensure the effectiveness of internal controls.
- Collaborative & Supportive: You build excellent working relationships with the team and the business. You are a reliable point of contact for colleagues seeking advice.
- Proactive & Responsible: You take ownership of your tasks, are result-oriented, and ensure timely and accurate delivery.
- Eager to learn & Flexible: You are driven to continuously deepen your expertise in risk, controls, and compliance and adapt quickly in a dynamic, fast-changing environment.
How do we measure your success? (KPIs)
'Careful alignment with stakeholders regarding the implementation of AI and technology in Controls, and the documentation thereof.' Additionally, perhaps instead of 'your response speed and precision in answering SOx and policy questions from the organization': 'being recognized as a conditional business partner in broad financial issues with expertise in the field of Risk Management and control measures.'
