Fiber Optic Technician – Data Center Montevideo, Uruguay · On-site · Full-time

About the role

We are looking for a Fiber Optic Technician for a Data Center to join an on-site technical team providing support to a hyperscale data center operator in Montevideo. You will be part of a small and hands-on team, responsible for keeping critical fiber and network infrastructure operational — installing, maintaining, and resolving incidents on equipment within a live and mission-critical facility.

What you will do

• Install, replace, and decommission fiber jumpers and cabling within the data center.
• Perform rack-and-stack tasks, cable pulling, labeling, and cable management.
• Work on a daily ticket queue: locating faults, replacing components, testing, and certifying connections.
• Coordinate the availability of materials and parts, and flag shortages or alternatives when necessary.
• Strictly follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols at all times.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and escalate blockers quickly.

What we are looking for

• Technical and hands-on profile — experience in data centers or fiber optics is an advantage, but not mandatory. Profiles from mechanics, cabling/electricity, or other process-oriented technical trades will be considered.
• Ability to follow procedures and detailed written documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently for extended periods, as well as in a team.
• Fluent English, spoken and written (mandatory requirement — the working language of the program is English).
• Comfort in an industrial environment: noise, temperature-controlled spaces, and physical work (regularly lifting/moving equipment up to ~23 kg).
• Certifications such as BICSI, CFOT, or CompTIA A+/Network+ are an advantage, though not mandatory.
