Fiber Optic Technician Data Center Montevideo - Advanced English Full-time

About the position:

We are looking for a Fiber Optic Technician for a Data Center to join an on-site technical team, providing support to a hyperscale data center operator in Montevideo. You will be part of a small and hands-on team, responsible for maintaining the critical fiber and network infrastructure — installing, maintaining, and resolving incidents in equipment within a live and mission-critical facility.

Main functions:

• Install, replace, and decommission fiber optic jumpers and cabling within the data center.
• Perform rack-and-stack tasks, cable pulling, labeling, and cable management.
• Work on a daily ticket queue: locate faults, replace components, test, and certify connections.
• Coordinate the availability of materials and parts, flagging shortages or alternatives when necessary.
• Strictly follow standard operating procedures and site safety protocols at all times.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and escalate blockers in a timely manner.

Requirements:

• Technical and hands-on profile. Experience in data centers or fiber optics is an advantage, but not mandatory — profiles from mechanics, electricity, cabling, or other process-oriented technical trades are considered.
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to work independently for extended periods, as well as in a team.
• Fluent English, spoken and written (mandatory requirement — the working language of the program is English).
• Comfort in an industrial environment: noise, temperature-controlled spaces, and physical work.
• Certifications such as BICSI, CFOT, or CompTIA A+/Network+ are an advantage, though not mandatory.
