We are supporting a progressive mining company with the appointment of a Construction Supervisor for a major mining project in West Africa .

This is a key site-based role for an experienced construction professional who can oversee day-to-day field activities, contractor performance, safety, quality, and productivity across a major project execution environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Construction Manager and wider project team to ensure construction activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, schedules, quality standards, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day construction activities across assigned work areas and contractor packages.
  • Ensure all construction work is carried out safely and in accordance with project HSE standards, procedures, and permit requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance, workforce productivity, equipment utilisation, and progress against schedule.
  • Ensure construction activities are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate daily field activities with contractors, engineering, project controls, logistics, quality, and HSE teams.
  • Identify construction issues, constraints, and potential delays and escalate these promptly to project leadership.
  • Monitor progress against short-term and overall project schedules and support the development of recovery plans where required.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and ensure non-conformances, defects, and incomplete works are appropriately addressed.
  • Review contractor work fronts to ensure labour, materials, equipment, access, permits, and information are available to support efficient execution.
  • Participate in daily coordination meetings, toolbox talks, progress reviews, and contractor meetings.
  • Ensure work areas are properly planned, sequenced, and coordinated to minimise interface issues and disruption.
  • Support inspection and test activities in conjunction with quality teams and ensure required documentation is completed.
  • Verify completed work and support measurement, progress assessment, and contractor reporting where required.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of construction activities, workforce numbers, productivity, incidents, delays, and key site issues.
  • Support pre-commissioning, punch-list management, completion, and handover activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and intervene where unsafe conditions or behaviours are identified.
  • Build effective working relationships with contractors while maintaining appropriate standards of performance, discipline, and accountability.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong experience in construction supervision within mining, minerals processing, infrastructure, heavy industrial, or major capital projects.
  • Proven experience supervising contractors and field construction activities in a live project environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, work fronts, productivity, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, work packs, and technical documentation.
  • Strong field presence with the confidence to challenge contractors and resolve day-to-day construction issues.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary construction activities and contractor interfaces.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, remote, and multicultural project environment.
  • Previous experience working on mining projects in Africa or other remote/international jurisdictions would be highly advantageous.

Ideal Background

The successful candidate may come from an owner’s project team, EPC/EPCM organisation, major construction contractor, engineering company, or mining project environment.

Experience supporting mining or process plant projects through construction, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and ramp-up , particularly where multiple contractors and disciplines are working simultaneously, would be highly relevant.

Experience supervising civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, or multidisciplinary construction activities would also be advantageous.

Qualifications/Certifications

  • Technical qualification, trade certification, diploma, or degree in Construction, Engineering, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related discipline.
  • Strong construction supervision experience within mining, heavy industrial, infrastructure, or major capital projects.
  • Experience working within owner, EPC, EPCM, or major contractor environments.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety, quality, scheduling, and contractor management.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, method statements, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with permit-to-work, risk assessment, inspections, and construction completion processes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous international or African mining project experience preferred.
