Chartering Manager

Role Purpose

The Chartering Manager will lead the development and commercial execution of a new business line focused on the carriage of wind turbine blades and other oversized project cargoes, including opportunities involving the organisation’s Panamax vessels. The role combines chartering, business development and team leadership with disciplined commercial and operational risk management.

Reporting to senior management, the successful candidate will originate cargo opportunities, assess vessel and voyage economics, negotiate commercially sound contracts and coordinate the specialist reviews required before any fixture is concluded. The Chartering Manager will work closely with Operations, Technical, Marine, Legal and Insurance teams, as well as external surveyors, naval architects, Class, Flag, P&I interests, ports and cargo interests.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the commercial strategy for wind turbine blade and project-cargo transportation,with clear revenue, margin, utilisation and risk objectives.
• Build a sustainable pipeline ofopportunities with wind-turbine manufacturers, developers, EPC contractors, freight forwarders, brokers, ports and other cargo interests.
• Analyse dry-bulk and project-cargo markets, trade flows, vessel supply and demand, competitor activity and freight trends to identify attractive cargo and deployment opportunities.
• Prepare voyage estimates andcommercial evaluations covering freight or hire, bunkers, port and agency costs, loading and discharge arrangements, transit time, weather exposure andvessel utilisation.
• Lead negotiations on spot,contract and time-charter opportunities, including charterparty terms, laycan,freight or hire, payment security, loading and discharge responsibilities, project-cargo provisions and allocation of liabilities.
• Coordinate vessel- andcargo-specific feasibility reviews, ensuring that specialist parties assess stowage, securing, lifting, deck and hatch-cover loading, stability, weather routing, port limitations and loading/discharge methodology before commercial commitment.
• Ensure required internal andexternal approvals, surveys, insurance reviews and risk controls areidentified, documented and completed in cooperation with the relevant specialists.
• Plan and oversee initial orpilot shipments, capture lessons learned and establish repeatable commercial and operational processes for scaling the business.
• Manage and develop the chartering team, set performance objectives and promote disciplined decision-making, accountability and continuous improvement.
• Monitor the chartering portfolio and report on pipeline, fixtures, revenue, contribution, exposure and business performance to senior management.

Qualifications &Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalentin Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Business Management or a related discipline.
• At least 7-10 years of relevantchartering, freight trading or shipping business-development experience, withstrong exposure to dry-bulk and Panamax operations.
• Practical experience in projectcargo, breakbulk, heavy-lift or wind-energy component logistics is arequirement.
• Demonstrated ability to originate business, develop customer relationships and negotiate charterparties and other commercial shipping contracts.
• Strong voyage-estimation,freight-calculation and commercial-analysis skills, with a clear understanding of P&L, utilisation and risk-return trade-offs.
• Working knowledge of the operational and contractual issues affecting oversized cargoes, together with the judgement to involve appropriate technical, marine, insurance and legal specialists.
• Proven leadership,stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear commercial recommendations.
