1-year contract, renewable Government project Hybrid work arrangement

Project Overview

This project delivers a volunteer management system. The role focuses on interface design across the system's core workflows, supporting coordinators, administrators, and volunteers through a clear, usable, and accessible interface.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design UI screens and end-to-end flows across the system's key user journeys
  • Translate product requirements and research insights into concrete, usable interface designs
  • Design for the full range of users — coordinators, administrators, and volunteers — accounting for their differing needs and contexts
  • Establish consistent UI patterns and components across the system
  • Plan and run usability testing to validate design decisions, and translate findings into improvements
  • Ensure interfaces meet WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards in practice
  • Partner with researchers, product managers, and engineers to move designs from concept to implementation
  • Contribute reusable patterns and components back to the government design system where relevant

Qualifications & Skill Sets

  • At least 5 years of experience in UI or product design, with a portfolio of shipped digital products
  • Strong UI craft — layout, typography, hierarchy, and interaction design across responsive and data-heavy screens
  • Advanced Figma proficiency, including componentisation and design tokens
  • Hands-on usability testing experience — planning, running, and acting on findings
  • Practical fluency in accessibility and inclusive design (WCAG 2.1, ARIA-aware design)
  • Experience designing workflow- or management-type systems (dashboards, records, scheduling) is an advantage
  • Clear communicator, able to articulate design rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences
