The Role The successful Tax Manager will lead the following: Ownership of the UK tax function across three legal entities, covering compliance, advisory, governance and risk management Acting as the principal internal tax adviser to UK finance leadership, providing guidance on corporate tax, VAT, employment taxes and wider business matters Identifying and advising on tax risks, planning opportunities and the implications of commercial and operational decisions Managing annual corporation tax computations, returns, quarterly payments and associated tax accounting requirements Overseeing VAT compliance, including quarterly returns, partial exemption calculations, Regulation 38 adjustments and related advisory matters Providing technical advice on international tax matters including transfer pricing, withholding tax, thin capitalisation and Corporate Interest Restriction requirements Managing employment tax obligations, including PAYE Settlement Agreements and Tax Award Schemes Leading the assessment and implementation of changes in tax legislation, ensuring the business understands the financial and operational implications Taking ownership of tax governance, controls and risk assessments, including supporting Senior Accounting Officer requirements Acting as the primary point of contact for HMRC, managing enquiries, technical discussions and any associated tax investigations Partnering with senior stakeholders across Finance, Treasury and the wider business to provide commercially focused tax advice Leading improvements to tax processes, reporting, controls and compliance frameworks Working with international Group tax colleagues to ensure consistency across reporting, governance and cross-border tax matters Engaging external tax advisers selectively for specialist technical input, complex transactions or independent review where appropriate
Your Profile We're looking for a technically strong and commercially minded Tax Manager who enjoys the variety and responsibility of owning a broad tax function.
You'll have the confidence to operate independently, interpret complex tax legislation and provide clear, practical advice to senior stakeholders without needing to rely on external consultants for day-to-day technical decisions.
This is a role for someone who wants to be the business's go-to person for tax so you'll be comfortable balancing the demands of a varied compliance calendar with more strategic advisory responsibilities, proactively identifying risks and opportunities rather than simply responding to issues as they arise.
The successful candidate will be inquisitive, detail orientated and confident challenging existing practices while building trusted relationships across the organisation.
You'll also have the judgement to recognise when specialist external advice is appropriate, while retaining ownership of the technical position, recommendations and implementation.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving complex problems and wants to have a genuine influence over how tax matters are managed across the business.
Salary & Benefits £75,000-£80,000 + annual bonus, pension, car and benefits package.
This is a hybrid role based in Maidenhead, requiring three days per week in the office.
