Job Description We are looking for a Quality Manager to lead quality at Sheergard Utah, a composites and radome manufacturer in North Salt Lake. This person will manage quality, supervise our inspectors, and oversee all quality documentation. Responsibilities also include making sure every part we ship meets drawing and customer requirements, keeping our inspection and documentation practices consistent, and helping our skilled specialists understand the quality requirements of each project. Our ideal candidate is well-versed in composite manufacturing and aerospace-style quality practices. You will work closely with production, engineering, and management across layup, infusion, finishing, and machining. Responsibilities

  • Manage quality across the shop and supervise inspectors: assign inspection work, train, and evaluate inspection staff.
  • Oversee all quality documentation, including inspection records, NCRs, FAI reports, certifications, and job quality packages.
  • Plan and perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections of composite parts and radomes against drawings, specifications, and travelers.
  • Own the nonconformance (NCR) process: identify, document, segregate, and disposition nonconforming material with engineering and management.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) and follow through to verified closure.
  • Review and control travelers, work instructions, SOPs, and inspection records so the shop works to the current revision and every job has complete documentation.
  • Plan and perform First Article Inspections (FAI) on new parts and revisions, including AS9102-style FAI reports where customers require them.
  • Manage supplier quality: evaluate and approve suppliers, review material certifications and shelf life, inspect incoming materials, and work supplier corrective actions.
  • Maintain calibration and control of inspection tools and gauges.
  • Serve as the main quality contact for customers, including customer audits, source inspections, and quality requirements in purchase orders.
  • Maintain and improve the quality management system.
  • Train employees on inspection, documentation, and quality procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with management regarding problems or issues impacting quality, and track quality metrics (scrap, rework, escapes, on-time NCR closure).
  • Ensure all safety and health standards are met to keep our organization accident-free.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment, including leadership responsibility (required).
  • Experience with composite materials and processes (layup, infusion, vacuum bagging, bonding, finishing) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with NCRs, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
  • Experience performing First Article Inspections.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, including GD&T basics, and use common inspection tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly understand and use our production traveler software.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications: MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proven record in training employees.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality standards and how they are implemented.
  • High school education required. Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality, or a related field a plus!
  • Quality certifications (e.g., ASQ CQE/CQA) a plus.
  • Experience with radomes, aerospace, or defense manufacturing a plus.
