Education:

Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.

Work site environment:

Noisy. Dusty.

Work setting:

Sawmill.

Tasks:

• Examine logs and rough lumber to decide best lumber cuts.
• Saw, trim and plane rough lumber into dressed lumber of various sizes.
• Saw or split shingles and shakes.
• Start conveyor system to move logs and lumber to and from saws.
• Set up and adjust saw equipment.
• Replace blades or bands.
• Clean and lubricate sawmill equipment.
• Check products for quality control.

Work conditions and physical capabilities:

Repetitive tasks. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Standing for extended periods.

Weight handling:

Up to 23 kg (50 lbs).

Own tools/equipment:

Steel-toed safety boots.
