Captain USA
Welcome to Wajer
At Wajer, the relationship does not end after the delivery of a yacht. On the contrary. With Wajer Care, we guarantee our owners the ultimate 'without a worry' experience. Our service organization counts nine hubs and a permanent team of over 130 specialists worldwide. We now have approximately 80 yachts in Miami and a growing fleet in The Hamptons and Connecticut.
As Captain USA, you are the face of Wajer for our American owners. You deliver top-tier service on the water and ensure that the yachts are always in impeccable condition. This requires maritime craftsmanship, a keen eye for detail, and an untiring focus on hospitality.
What you will do
As Captain USA, you are responsible for the complete onboard experience. You will sail independently in challenging and busy areas. Think of the waters around Florida, the coastline of Connecticut and New York, and longer crossings to the Bahamas. These are not simple waters. You navigate through tidal waters and past sandbanks that are not always on the map. No two days are the same: one day you are sailing with owners and their guests, the next you are ensuring the yachts are maintained to perfection. You prepare every trip down to the last detail. You manage inventory and catering. You ensure the owner's favorite snacks and drinks are chilled. You check the safety equipment and ensure the yacht shines both inside and out. During the voyage, you provide invisible but perfect service. In addition to sailing with owners, you also conduct sea trials for our Sales team. You allow potential buyers to experience the unique sailing characteristics of a Wajer. You also prepare yachts for transport by road or water.
What a day looks like
You start with the daily briefing, where you go over the day with the team. After that, you drive to the first boat in your fleet. You walk through the yachts on your list in detail: you check the systems, perform minor maintenance, and ensure everything inside and out is sparkling. Between boats, there is sometimes a fifteen or thirty-minute drive, and sometimes everything is located on a single pier. After lunch, you head out onto the water. In the afternoon, you sail with owners and their guests, or you conduct a sea trial for the Sales team. In the evening, you dock, tidy up, and prepare the boat for the next day. The following day revolves around sailing from early morning until evening, and a day later, you are off. Each captain manages their own part of the fleet. No week is the same.
Your playground
You work in a dual season setup. This means that in the winter months you work in bustling Miami, and in the summer, the operation expands north towards Connecticut and New York. You are part of Wajer Care USA. You report directly to the Operations Manager and the Area Manager. The permanent team in the region consists of one Operations Manager and four Captains. During peak moments, you work together with freelance captains. In your daily work, you are supported by the Business Support department and a full-fledged local technical team. Together, you ensure that the 'without a worry' promise is fulfilled every single day.
What you bring
You are naturally independent and customer-oriented. You understand what is required to provide service at the highest level. You keep your cool in unexpected situations, whether it concerns changing weather or a last-minute change in planning. You possess a hands-on mentality. Thoroughly cleaning the deck and performing minor maintenance are just as much a part of your profession as the navigation itself. You have strong social skills and communicate easily with owners, colleagues, and local suppliers.
Furthermore, you possess:
- At least two years of demonstrable experience as a Captain
- Klein vaarbewijs I and II
- An RYA Powerboat Level II certificate
- Fluent command of the English language, both spoken and written
- A Yachtmaster certification is a strong plus
- Experience with night sailing is a strong plus. If you do not have this yet, we will help you develop it
