For our dynamic and creative E,I&C team at the Karlsruhe location, we are looking for you full-time (40 h) as Head of Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Department (m/f/d). What to expect from us

  • You build up the ICE team, hire new colleagues, and develop them professionally.
  • You take over performance assessments and ensure that the team is optimally positioned for current and future project requirements.
  • You ensure the technical quality of all ICE deliverables and approve central documents.
  • You ensure that all designs comply with Vulcan standards, relevant standards (IEC, VDE, ATEX), and project-specific requirements.
  • You coordinate ICE resources across multiple projects and keep an eye on progress, deadlines, and risks.
  • You work in a solution-oriented manner.
  • You review the ICE deliverables of external partners and provide technical direction.
  • You clarify technical questions, resolve deviations, and ensure smooth cooperation.
  • You further develop ICE standards and create discipline-specific procedures, specifications, and design guidelines.
  • You provide technical contributions to ICE equipment specifications.
  • You evaluate suppliers and support technical bid clarifications.
  • You ensure that ICE designs are cleanly integrated with process, mechanical engineering, and construction disciplines.
  • You identify and resolve interface problems early on.
  • You plan the resource requirements of the ICE discipline, track costs, and support budget planning in engineering.

What you should bring

  • You have a completed degree in electrical engineering, control/automation technology, instrumentation, or a related field (Dipl.-Ing., M.Sc. or comparable).
  • You have more than 15 years of experience in ICE engineering in capital-intensive project environments – e.g., in chemicals, oil & gas, power generation, or other large-scale industrial plants.
  • You bring practical experience with DCS and PLC systems, the design of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), medium voltage technology, and industrial measurement technology.
  • You are familiar with relevant norms and standards such as IEC 61511, IEC 61131, IEC 60079 (ATEX/Ex) as well as the VDE regulations.
  • Ideally, you have experience with AVEVA tools (E3D, Instrumentation, Electrical) or comparable engineering systems.
  • You can demonstrate that you have successfully led the technical delivery of an ICE discipline in large EPC or EPCm projects.
  • You have already successfully led, developed, and managed engineering teams in complex project environments.
  • You communicate technical content clearly and understandably – even to colleagues without an ICE background – and can confidently represent technical positions towards contractors.
  • You enjoy working interdisciplinarily and find pragmatic, robust solutions together with other specialist departments.
  • You speak fluent English; German skills are an advantage.
  • You are willing to travel to project sites and contractor offices if required.
