BESS Quality Director (M/F)
Volta Executive is a headhunting firm specializing in the industry and energy sectors. Our signature: engineers before headhunters. We work directly with the general and technical management of the energy sector. We are recruiting for our client, the French subsidiary of an international industrial group (over 100,000 employees worldwide, present in more than 40 countries), located in the Saint-Étienne region with approximately 180 employees on-site. The site designs, manufactures, and commissions Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) intended for electrical grid stabilization, as well as power conversion solutions for renewable energies, steelmaking, cement plants, paper, and oil & gas. A project-based organization, human-sized, in a very high-growth market.
The position:
A newly created position, member of the site's executive committee. Reporting to the Site General Manager, you will take full responsibility for Quality, a scope previously integrated into the QHSE function and now autonomous to support the growth of the BESS activity. You will manage a team of 3 people. Your missions:
- Define and drive the quality strategy for the site and the product segment, in coherence with group standards - Structure and maintain the quality management system (ISO 9001, customer and project frameworks) - Manage product and project quality, from design to commissioning, on electrotechnical equipment and battery containers - Manage supplier quality: selection, audits, progress plans, non-conformity processing across an international supply chain - Deploy problem-solving culture (8D, 5 why, AMDEC, risk analysis) among production, projects, and design office teams - Manage the costs of poor quality and build performance indicators presented to the executive committee - Act as the quality interlocutor for key accounts (energy companies, industrial players, grid operators) during audits and project reviews - Manage, develop skills, and structure your team of 3 employees
A high-impact position, with real latitude to build the function and influence site decisions.
Profile sought:
Education: Engineer or equivalent Master's degree (Bac+5), with a focus on electrotechnical, electronics, industrial engineering, or mechanical engineering. Experience: At least 10 years in industrial quality, including proven experience in team management and managing a complete quality scope. What will make the difference:
- An electrotechnical or electronic product background: energy storage, batteries, inverters and power conversion, electrical switchgear, panel building, or industrial equipment with high electrical intensity - Mastery of quality frameworks (ISO 9001, and ideally IATF 16949, VDA 6.3 or equivalent demanding sector standards) - Real practice of supplier quality and international audits - Experience in project mode and long-term business, from design to on-site commissioning - Fluent professional English, indispensable in an international group environment
Your posture: you are analytical, factual, and know how to hold a position in an executive committee. You enjoy structuring what does not yet exist and engaging technical teams without relying solely on hierarchical authority.
