Mechanical Design Engineer

6 Month Contract – Warwick

VIQU have partnered with an organisation who are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of heavy-duty vehicle chassis systems and structural components. Working within a specialist vehicle manufacturing environment, you will be involved in chassis design, system integration and engineering change activities.

This is a hands-on role focused on chassis structures, fabrications, suspension, steering and braking systems. The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will also provide technical support to production, resolving design and manufacturing issues as they arise.

Role Responsibilities

• Design and develop heavy-duty chassis structures, sheet metal components and fabricated assemblies using 3D CAD and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Provide production engineering support by investigating manufacturing and assembly issues and implementing robust corrective actions.
• Deliver integration activities across vehicle systems including suspension, steering, braking, axle and chassis-mounted components.
• Create and release engineering changes through the established engineering change management process.
• Support vehicle validation and testing activities, using engineering judgement to assess performance, manufacturability and product quality.

Key Skills and Experience Required

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within HGV, commercial vehicle, off-highway, yellow goods, construction equipment or agricultural machinery environments.
• Strong background in the design of heavy-gauge sheet metal components, structural fabrications and welded assemblies.
• Experience working with chassis systems such as suspension, brakes, steering, axles and vehicle structures.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and production of high-quality 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and/or GPS tolerancing methodologies within a manufacturing environment.
• Understanding of low-volume manufacturing processes including laser-cut, pressed and formed sheet metal components.
• Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with the ability to analyse technical issues, troubleshoot production concerns and deliver practical engineering solutions.

• Rate: £40 - £50 per hour
• Location: Onsite / Warwick
