*Job Overview*

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety Officer to champion safety protocols across our construction sites. In this vital role, you will oversee safety compliance, field operations, conduct inspections, regulatory compliance, site level hazard management, and promote a culture of safety awareness among all team members. Your expertise will help ensure that construction activities proceed smoothly while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety for everyone involved. The safety officer ensures all workers and subcontractors adhere to OHS Legislation, safety programs, and prime contractors requirements. The role works closely with site supervisors, project managers, subcontractors, and leadership to maintain safe, compliant, and well-documented worksites.

*Responsibilities*

  • Monitor construction sites regularly to identify potential hazards and enforce safety regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive safety inspections and audits to ensure adherence to Alberta OHS code and company safety standards.
  • Develop, implement, and update safety procedures tailored to specific construction activities.
  • Provide safety training sessions for new and existing staff, emphasizing best practices and emergency response protocols.
  • Investigate incidents or accidents thoroughly, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with construction management teams to plan safe workflows and mitigate risks before work begins.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Complete hazard assessments, FLHAs, toolbox talks, equipment inspections, and incident documentation.
  • Ensure proper use, inspection, and documentation of fall protection, scaffolding, ladders, and confined-space equipment.
  • Monitor excavation safety, trenching requirements, and ground-disturbance controls.
  • Review and enforce safe work practices for plumbing and mechanical installations.

*Qualifications*

  • Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • CRSP designation or working toward CRSP considered as an asset
  • 5 years of experience in a Health & Safety?related role, preference will be given for Residential experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong team player with superior organizational and project?management abilities
  • Strong work ethic, high level of enthusiasm, and ability to excel in a fast?paced, flexible environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and commitment to positive results
  • Excellent knowledge of provincial OH&S legislation

Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
