Nurse Practitioner - Workplace Violence Prevention Program Manager
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Major duties
Directs the administrative and clinical aspects of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program across the WCHCS System. Responsible for coordinating interdisciplinary staffing by Chairing the Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC), Employee Threat Assessment Team (ETAT), Workplace Behavioral Risk Assessment (WBRA) team and Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) Coordinator. Implements VHA Directive 1160.08(1) VHA Workplace Violence Prevention Program and associated Compliance Checklist, as well as for informing and writing policies, procedures, and program guidelines in the development, planning, operations, and continuous performance improvement of all components of the WVPP in the WCHCS. Responsible for coordinating the inter/multidisciplinary Behavioral Threat Assessment Teams including the DBC and the ETAT. The Program Coordinator demonstrates experience in leading diverse and interdisciplinary teams. The Program Coordinator must form and maintain a cohesive team of staff from a variety of disciplines and supervisory chains of authorities to ensure targeted and evidence-based efforts to promote the safety of beneficiaries and personnel of the WCHCS. Maintains a close partnership with the national WVPP. In this role the Program Coordinator is responsible for aligning local program implementation with the best national practice guidelines. The incumbent seeks national guidance regarding disruptive individuals in the workplace, behavior risk and threat management recommendations, and strategies to promote a culture of safety in VHA. The Program Coordinator also maintains a close working relationship with community partners in public safety and organizational safety. Provides supervisory duties over the PMDB Coordinator, Program Support Assistant and other support staff. Provides quarterly updates to the Executive Leadership Board and submit WVPP-related work products directly to the Chief of Staff and/or Facility Director. Collaborates effectively with the facility's Executive Leadership, VA Police, the VA Office of Inspector General, the national WVPP Office, and other key stakeholders on an ongoing basis. Manages practice and oversees the day-to-day business of the inter/multidisciplinary committees that reviews incidents of Patient-Generated Disruptive Behaviors, Visitor-Generated Disruptive Behaviors, and Employee-Generated Disruptive Behaviors. This role involves conducting and delegating behavioral threat assessments to inform recommendations for individualized risk management strategies; consulting with VA Providers, clinical staff and DBC and ETAT members; informing and providing risk relevant clinical interventions in cases of disruptive or violent behavior history; providing and overseeing education to staff; providing timely and accurate responses to action items and recommendations made by the DBC and ETAT. Trains of team members in evidence-based threat assessment and threat management practice. The Program Coordinator collaborates with leadership to ensure facility policies are compliant with The Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General, and OSHA requirements regarding workplace violence prevention training. Qualifications
Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Basic Requirements Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. (Applicants pending the completion of educational requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until the education requirements are met.) Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). NOTE: Foreign Education. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs, the nurse practitioner degree equivalency must be validated through an Agency recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency, such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Candidates with equivalent nurse practitioner masters or doctorate level degrees who possess current, full, active, and unrestricted registration and certification will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant appointment. License - All APN (NPs) must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Basic Board Certification - All APN (NPs) must maintain full and current basic board certification from one of the following: the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), or other nationally recognized certifying body in the area in which the Nurse Practitioner is academically prepared. NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and an APN (NP) assignment that are also performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification. The following Scope, Education and Experience, and Dimension criteria must be met to qualify for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) II: Exception to Licensure for Graduate Nurse Technicians. Candidates who otherwise meet the basic requirements, but do not possess the required licensure and/or certification, may be appointed at the entry step of the Nurse II, as a Graduate Nurse Technician - Nurse Practitioner on a temporary appointment up to any period not-to-exceed one year and a day under the authority of 38 U.S.C. § 405(c)(2)(B). Nurse II is considered the entry grade level for APN (NPs); no experience is required. Requirements
Demonstrate the ability to coordinate all aspects of VHA program, leads multidisciplinary team, oversees governance and serves as committee chair, coordinates supporting projects, and reports to facility leadership and program offices as necessary. Ability to consult with providers and Service Chiefs on management of disruptive patients. Oversees education, training, and implementation of local and national policies. Experience with budgeting for specific VHA programs and working with facility leadership in planning for all aspects required to support workplace violence prevention. Ability to establish customer oriented culture, promotes hiring of persons who fit that culture, empowers staff to resolve issues independently, effectively manages resources, and develops an effective workforce. Ability to develop and implements competencies, provides opportunities for education, peer review, and professional development. Responsible for performance reviews, rewards and disciplinary actions.
