For an international player within tank storage and logistical handling, we are looking for an Operations Manager who leads operational teams and helps ensure the safe and efficient operation of the terminal in Gent.
This is not a management position where you only read reports. Rather, it is a hands-on role where coaching, operational follow-up, and safety are central every day.
Job Description
As Operations Manager, you support the terminal activities in Gent and ensure that operational processes run safely, efficiently, and correctly.
You lead various operational shifts responsible for the loading and unloading of ships, trucks, and other installations within the terminal environment.
A typical workday?
You monitor operational activities, coach employees on the shop floor, and adjust where necessary. Additionally, you work closely with planners, maintenance supervisors, field supervisors, and terminal management to guarantee a smooth logistical flow.
Safety also plays a central role within your position. You monitor procedures, work permits, housekeeping, and the safe commissioning and decommissioning of installations.
Furthermore, you analyze operational needs, contribute to optimizations, and ensure that work instructions remain correctly up to date. You monitor employees, detect training needs, and support the further development of your teams.
You work within a technical and petrochemical environment where quick decision-making, leadership, and a sense of responsibility are essential.
Requirements
- Higher education in technical or maritime sciences
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role
- Experience within the petrochemical sector or storage of liquid products
- Knowledge of SEVESO legislation
- Experience with ERP systems
- Strong people management and coaching skills
- Safety-conscious and hands-on mindset
- Willingness to participate in on-call shifts
- Strong knowledge of MS Office
- Fluent knowledge of English
- Stress-resistant, independent, and reliable
- Strong communicator and solution-oriented
