Approved Electrician

Location: NHS Hospital - Stockport Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Working Pattern: Site-Based Pay: Up to £22.00 per hour, dependent on experience and qualifications

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Approved Electrician to join our team on a dedicated NHS hospital site.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified electrician with strong maintenance, inspection and testing, fault-finding and installation experience to work within a technically demanding and operational healthcare environment.

Previous experience within an NHS, healthcare or similarly critical environment is highly desirable. You will need to understand the additional controls, communication and working practices required when working around patients, clinical teams and critical building services.

This is not solely an installation role . The position involves a varied mix of planned and reactive electrical maintenance, installation, inspection and testing, fault finding and remedial works across existing and new electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out electrical installation, maintenance, repairs, fault finding and remedial works.
• Undertake planned and reactive maintenance across the hospital site.
• Complete electrical inspection, testing and certification.
• Work in accordance with BS 7671, HTM 06-02, RAMS and site Electrical Safety Rules .
• Follow safe isolation, lock-off and permit-to-work procedures.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and circuit schedules.
• Complete electrical certification, maintenance records and associated documentation accurately.
• Liaise professionally with NHS Estates, clinical teams, site management and other contractors.
• Work safely within occupied and critical healthcare areas, minimising disruption to clinical services.
• Identify issues outside your level of competence and escalate appropriately to the Authorised Person.
• Maintain a high standard of health, safety, workmanship and professional conduct at all times.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

Please read carefully before applying. Applicants must currently hold the following minimum requirements:

• NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or recognised equivalent.
• AM2 or recognised equivalent.
• Current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations .
• Current recognised Inspection & Testing qualification , such as City & Guilds 2391-52 or equivalent.
• ECS Gold Card – Approved Electrician .
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good understanding of safe isolation and electrical safe systems of work.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Good communication, IT and documentation skills.

Desirable Experience

The following experience and knowledge would be advantageous:

• Previous experience working within an NHS or live healthcare environment .
• Knowledge of HTM 06-02 and LV Competent Person duties.
• Experience working in or around Medical Locations in accordance with BS 7671 Section 710 .
• Nurse call systems.
• Fire alarm systems.
• Emergency lighting.
• DALI and dimmable lighting control systems.
• BMS and electrical control systems.
• UPS systems, generators and critical electrical supplies.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical building services and associated controls.

Working Environment

The successful candidate will be working within a live, operational hospital environment .

You will therefore need to demonstrate a professional and disciplined approach to working around patients, clinical staff and critical services. Strong communication, attention to detail and adherence to site procedures are essential.

The role requires the ability to work safely and effectively while minimising disruption to hospital operations.
