Education:

Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience.

Work setting:

Various locations. Commercial. Industrial. Institutional. Residential. Construction site.

Tasks:

  • Install domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Repair domestic, commercial or industrial plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems.
  • Instruct apprentices.
  • Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors.
  • Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment.
  • Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges.
  • Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing.
  • Supervise other workers.
  • Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size.

Supervision:

1 to 2 people. 3-4 people.

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses :

  • Plumber Trade Certification.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Confined Space Entry Training.
  • Plumber Red Seal Certificate.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.

Security and safety:

Bondable. Basic security clearance. Criminal record check.

Work conditions and physical capabilities:

Physically demanding. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Hand-eye co-ordination. Handling heavy loads. Large workload. Work under pressure.

Own tools/equipment:

  • Tools.
  • Safety equipment/gear.
  • Steel-toed safety boots.
  • Hard hat.
