Videographer

Company Description Vashi Impact Group (VIG) is an international development and humanitarian research and evaluation firm and institute led by professionals with lived experience in conflict, post-conflict, and fragile states. Operating from the UK, Uganda, Nigeria, Afghanistan, and India, VIG promotes a feminist, socially inclusive, and intersectional agenda worldwide. The organization’s primary mission is to address gender and social disparities and tackle intergenerational poverty. With specialisation in conflict analysis and peacebuilding, VIG’s team consists of highly skilled experts and practitioners from the Global South. They work closely with communities affected by violent conflicts and extremism in fragile settings, driving locally informed and sustainable change.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Videographer role based in Kampala. The Videographer will plan, film, and edit video content that highlights VIG’s programs, research, and community impact, ensuring visual storytelling aligns with the organization’s feminist and socially inclusive values. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with program and communications teams to develop video concepts, capturing high-quality footage in field and office settings, recording interviews and testimonials, and managing audio, lighting, and framing. The role also involves post-production editing, motion graphics or basic animation when needed, and preparing content for digital platforms and presentations. The Videographer will maintain equipment, organize media assets and archives, and follow ethical guidelines and safety protocols when working with communities affected by conflict and fragility.

Qualifications

Demonstrated skills in videography, including camera operation, framing, composition, and on-site shooting in diverse environments. Proficiency in video editing and post-production using common editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve). Experience with audio and lighting set-up, including use of microphones, lighting rigs, and basic color correction for professional-quality output. Ability to develop visual narratives and storyboards that align with organizational goals and communicate complex social issues clearly. Understanding of ethical storytelling, safeguarding, and informed consent when filming in conflict-affected or vulnerable communities. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and community stakeholders. Capacity to work on-site in Kampala and travel within Uganda as needed, often in fast-paced and dynamic field contexts. Relevant diploma or degree in film production, media, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Experience in the international development, humanitarian, or peacebuilding sectors is an asset, particularly within the Global South.
