Your tasks

WHAT EXACTLY WILL YOU BE DOING? As a System Administrator, you are responsible for our server environment, storage, backups, and the Microsoft cloud environment. You prevent outages instead of just resolving them. You are the second line for IT Support and work closely with network management, suppliers, and the IT teams in the Netherlands.

You are responsible for, among other things:

• Managing and maintaining our virtualization environment, servers, and storage;
• Managing Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, including security and access rights;
• Monitoring, testing, and restoring backups;
• Timely implementation of updates and patches, including a plan for when things go wrong;
• Monitoring systems and resolving outages and recurring problems, down to the root cause;
• Documenting the environment so that a colleague can take over your work;
• Contributing ideas regarding IT security, continuity, and improvements.

Requirements

WHY DOES THIS JOB FIT YOU? You get energy from systems that simply work and from the peace of mind that comes with knowing why they work. You have years of experience in independently managing a server environment. You think in terms of causes, work in a structured manner, and test a change before it goes live. You work in a small-scale team with a lot of autonomy and see the direct result of your work.

Additionally, it is important that you possess:

• At least 4 years of demonstrable work experience as a system administrator, in which you managed an environment independently;
• Extensive experience with virtualization, Windows Server, and Microsoft 365 / Entra ID;
• Work experience with Linux and with backup and recovery;
• Knowledge of networks (VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls) and IT security;
• A completed mbo 4 or hbo education in an ICT field;
• Experience with containers, NAS systems, scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) or hotel systems (a plus that will give your application a clear boost);
• A good command of English (Dutch is a plus, as are Spanish and/or Papiamento);
• Availability of 40 hours per week and participation in the on-call roster for acute outages;
• A positive attitude and the willingness to commit to the growth and development of our organization for at least two years.

At Plaza Resort Bonaire, you work on Bonaire, part of Caribbean Netherlands. Dutch territory, with its own rules. We believe it is important that you know exactly what you are getting into beforehand. This way, you can start your new chapter here with peace of mind.

• Your salary is in US dollars (USD). This is the official currency of Caribbean Netherlands.
• Own tax system. The first USD 21,956 you earn is tax-free. Above that, you pay 29.4%; from approximately USD 75,000, 38.4% applies.
• No healthcare premium, no deductible. As soon as you are registered, you are insured via Zorg en Jeugd Caribisch Nederland. Do arrange bridging insurance until that registration is finalized.
• You are or will become a resident of Caribbean Netherlands. This is also important for tax purposes, as only domestic taxpayers are entitled to the tax-free sum.
• We arrange your admission. As a High Trust Partner of the Rijksdienst Caribisch Nederland, we handle the paperwork. You only provide your documents. Our extra service for a warm welcome.
• You are stepping into a new life, not just a new job. Housing, transport, groceries: things are different here than in European Netherlands. Our HR team will think along with you, even well after your first workday.
