Network Administrator
About the company
At Van der Valk Plaza Resort Bonaire, you will manage the network of a resort that operates 24/7: offices, restaurants, hundreds of guest rooms, villas, and a marina. Our resort is growing rapidly and is undergoing extensive professionalization. Given our mission to create a surprising total experience for both our guests and our employees, and our vision of healthy, sustainable growth, a network that always works is indispensable. Wifi, cash registers, telephony, television, door locks, and air conditioning all run through it, so a malfunction is immediately noticed by the guest. That is why we are looking for an experienced Network Administrator who will keep the network stable and continue to expand it. You are a reliable link within our organization, where our core values of hospitality, teamwork, innovation, and sustainable entrepreneurship form the foundation of our DNA: Welcome to the Family.
GET TO KNOW US For 30 years, Plaza Resort Bonaire has been a leading employer in Caribbean Netherlands. Our entrepreneurial hospitality family business features rooms, suites, and penthouses, a private beach, multiple swimming pools, a marina, plus a PADI 5-star dive center.
Our mission is clear. We offer our guests and our employees a unique total experience, with exceptional service, a professional organization, and sincere attention to the nature that makes this island so special.
More than 350 colleagues from all walks of life make this happen every day. Hospitality, teamwork, innovation, and sustainable entrepreneurship are not just words on paper for us. It is our DNA.
Your tasks
WHAT EXACTLY WILL YOU DO? As a Network Administrator, you are responsible for our switches, firewalls, wifi, and the connections between the buildings on the premises. You monitor the network, resolve malfunctions, and implement changes in a controlled manner. You are the second line for IT Support and work closely with system administration, suppliers, and the IT teams in the Netherlands.
You are responsible for, among other things:
- Managing and maintaining switches, routers, firewalls, and the wifi network;
- Configuring and maintaining VLANs, routing, and network segmentation;
- Monitoring the network and resolving malfunctions and recurring problems, down to the root cause;
- Preparing, implementing, and ensuring the rollback capability of changes, outside of the resort's busy hours;
- Securing the network, including the guest network and remote access;
- Documenting the network environment and the cabling;
- Coordination with internet providers, installers, and suppliers.
Requirements
WHY DOES THIS JOB SUIT YOU? You get energy from a network that you know down to the last port. You measure first, modify later, and always have a way back. You work in a small-scale team with a lot of autonomy and see the direct result of your work.
Additionally, it is important that you possess:
- At least 4 years of demonstrable work experience as a network administrator, in which you independently managed a corporate network;
- In-depth knowledge of layer 2 and 3: VLAN design and inter-VLAN routing, spanning tree design (root bridge and priorities), and multicast with IGMP snooping for IPTV and AV-over-IP;
- Work experience with network segmentation (guests, IoT, management), firewall rules, VPN, and QoS for voice and video;
- Experience with the design and management of an enterprise wifi network via a controller;
- Experience with network monitoring (SNMP, syslog) and systematically analyzing malfunctions, down to the packet level (Wireshark);
- A completed mbo 4 or hbo education in an ICT field; a certification such as CCNA or similar is a strong advantage;
- Good command of English (Dutch is an advantage, as are Spanish and/or Papiamentu);
- Availability of 40 hours per week and participation in the on-call roster for acute malfunctions;
- The willingness to commit yourself for at least two years to the growth and development of our organization.
An advantage is experience with fiber optics, VoIP, IPTV, Dante, dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP), or automating network management (Python, Ansible).
