About the Senior Lighting Engineer Role

Are you an experienced Senior Lighting Engineer looking to play a critical role in shaping the UK’s strategic road network? We are seeking a Senior Lighting Engineer to lead the technical delivery, asset management, and improvement programs for major highway electrical infrastructure based in Maidstone. Working as part of a high-performing multidisciplinary team, you will act as a technical authority—driving safety, innovation, and sustainability across critical transport assets. If you bring strong expertise in highway lighting design, lifecycle asset planning, and supply chain oversight, this is an outstanding opportunity to advance your career on large-scale infrastructure projects.

Senior Lighting Engineer Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Scheme Delivery: Lead the design, assessment, and implementation of highway lighting and electrical infrastructure projects from early-stage solution development through to delivery.

Asset Management & Solutions: Identify asset needs, evaluate condition data, and formulate early intervention strategies for renewals and improvements in line with established policies and priorities.

Quality & Technical Assurance: Conduct rigorous design reviews, compliance checks, and value management assessments, incorporating modern techniques, sustainable materials, and buildability considerations.

Supply Chain & Stakeholder Management: Manage design consultants, contractors, and supply chain partners to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.

Governance & Data Integrity: Monitor scheme delivery progress, maintain accurate asset data databases, and report on program milestones and risk mitigations.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives focused on sustainability, energy efficiency, and network safety.

Key Requirements

Qualifications: Degree, HND, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Professional Status: Professional membership with a relevant engineering institution (ICE, IET, ILP), working toward or holding Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) status.

Highways & Standards Expertise: Proven experience delivering highway lighting and electrical schemes, with a deep understanding of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges ( DMRB ) standards and CDM 2015 regulations.

Asset Lifecycle Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of asset condition assessment, degradation modeling, and early solution development.

Delivery & Governance: Demonstrable track record managing design consultants, contractor performance, and budget/program governance.

Driving License: Valid UK driving license (maximum of 3 points).
