Senior Full-stack Developer – Web GIS / Geospatial
For one of our clients, we are looking for a Senior Full-stack Developer with very strong experience in creating web applications and Web GIS / geospatial programming. You will join an international project developing a global settlement mapping system, supporting the exposure component within a European crisis management system. Great emphasis is placed on: application performance, security, digital accessibility, scalability, serving users worldwide, including those with limited network bandwidth, code quality and readability, transformation and visualization of geospatial data. The work takes place in an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment.
Daily tasks
- Development and maintenance of full-stack functionality – from front-end architecture and user interaction to backend logic, API, and database integration.
- Monitoring, testing, and optimizing Web GIS application architecture, with a particular focus on rendering, network, accessibility, and scalability performance.
- Designing and developing new architectural components and existing solutions to improve UX.
- Designing data transformation processes and automation scripts for converting scientific and geospatial data, e.g., XLS and TIFF → JSON, GeoJSON, and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF.
- Implementing web application security best practices, including data validation and sanitization, XSS protection, and vulnerability analysis and remediation according to the OWASP Top 10 approach.
- Developing responsive applications working across different browsers and devices and integration with REST API.
- Creating server-side proxy services/endpoints.
- Preparing graphic elements, interactive data visualizations, infographics, and data-driven publication templates compliant with visual identity.
- Testing, debugging, problem analysis, and preparing technical documentation.
Requirements
Higher education and: min. 10 years of relevant IT experience – with a Master's degree, min. 12 years – with a Bachelor's/Engineer's degree, min. 17 years – with secondary education. Min. 15 years of experience in creating websites/web applications, covering front-end, back-end, and web mastering. Min. 10 years of experience in geospatial web programming. Min. 10 years of experience in UI/UX design. Min. 5 years of experience with code and data management tools, including Git, and knowledge of legacy systems using SVN. Very good knowledge of: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery, Kendo UI Professional for jQuery, OpenLayers, legacy JavaScript ES3/ES5 as well as modern ES6+, Webpack / Vite. Experience with backend technologies Java, Node.js, or PHP, in particular: Spring Boot, Hibernate, REST API, PHP for lightweight server-side functionality, Node.js for offline scripts, automation, and data transformation, SQLite and data access using SQL. Certification or professional training in IT Security / Web Application Security. IBM Data Science Professional Certificate or equivalent certificate. IBM AI Engineering Professional Certificate or equivalent certificate covering AI/ML methods related to scientific/geospatial data products. Certification or professional training in digital accessibility. Certification or professional training in UX research. English language proficiency min. B2+ and Italian min. B2+.
Additional assets will be experience working with large scientific/geospatial datasets, experience in designing Web GIS application architecture, practical knowledge of web application accessibility and security standards, experience in creating applications intended for users with limited bandwidth.
