Postdoc in Materials Computational Chemistry
About the company
The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the subject of chemistry. The department has 270 employees and a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department's six programs, very successful research of high international class is conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often involving international collaboration, and we see continued good growth within our subject area. The department has an educational mandate within engineering and civil engineering programs as well as master's programs. More information can be found on our website.
The project is funded by Energimyndigheten and will be carried out within the Structural Chemistry research program at Uppsala universitet, which encompasses both the research environment for Materials Computational Chemistry and Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC). The postdoc will be an active part of both these environments. The project is carried out in collaboration with LEPMI at Grenoble INP in France. The work also includes a research visit of approximately two months per year at Grenoble INP.
Uppsala universitet is a broad research university with a strong international position. The ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a difference in society. Our most important asset is all 7,500 employees and 53,000 students who, with curiosity and engagement, make Uppsala universitet one of the country's most exciting workplaces.
Your tasks
The goal of the research project is to increase the understanding of the mechanisms that govern ion transport in ceramic-polymer composite electrolytes for solid-state batteries and to provide guidelines for the development of materials with improved ionic conductivity. The work focuses on method development as well as the development and application of computationally efficient multiscale models, with a particular focus on statistical thermodynamics and probability-based dynamic methods, such as molecular dynamics and kinetic Monte Carlo, to study transport within and between the different phases of the materials. Atomistic simulations and experimental data are used to develop and validate the models, with a particular focus on the importance of interfaces for ion transport.
Requirements
For employment as a postdoc, a doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in the field of chemistry, physics, materials science, or other relevant areas for the position is required, obtained no more than three (3) years before the last application date. If there are special reasons, an earlier doctoral degree may be accepted. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade unions, etc.
The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. The quality of the individual scientific work will be given greater weight than the number of publications. The applicant is expected to have very good knowledge of English in speech and writing.
A solid background in computational chemistry methods for different length and time scales, including dynamic simulations, as well as a stable foundation in statistical thermodynamics, is required. The applicant must have experience in and the ability to collaborate with experimental researchers, the ability to build well-functioning teams, as well as leadership skills that can contribute to the supervision of doctoral students and master's students. The ability to communicate science clearly in speech and writing is also required. Great importance will be placed on these abilities in the assessment.
Experience in method development and modeling of materials as well as transport mechanisms and interfaces is meritorious, as are programming skills and experience with machine learning.
