About the company

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is one of Uppsala University's largest departments with around 400 employees, including approximately 60 professors and more than 125 doctoral students. The department conducts world-leading research and education in both theoretical and experimental physics subjects and has extensive collaboration with the outside world. The research activities are organized into 14 research programs spanning from the incredibly small to the extremely large, such as energy research, new materials, and the universe. This entire spectrum of research activities is also reflected in the department's courses and educational programs. Every year, approximately 2,500 students take courses at the undergraduate and advanced levels at the department. For more information, www.physics.uu.se.

Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international position. The ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a difference in society. Our most important asset is all 7,500 employees and 53,000 students who, with curiosity and commitment, make Uppsala University one of the country's most exciting workplaces.

Your tasks

The position is located within the research program for Quantum Matter Theory. Research within the program focuses on condensed matter where quantum mechanical effects characteristically determine the properties. The activities span several directions within physics, such as unconventional superconductivity, topological matter, non-equilibrium physics in nanosystems, strongly correlated systems, and quantum information. The project belongs to a research group led by Professor Annica Black-Schaffer and which currently consists of 16 doctoral students and postdocs. More information can be found on the group's website: http://materials-theory.physics.uu.se/blackschaffer.

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated postdoc in quantum matter theory for projects that combine unconventional superconductivity and quantum geometry. The work involves both numerical calculations and analytical work. The postdoc is expected to work independently, both individually and in collaboration with other group members and external collaborators.

Requirements

Qualification requirements A doctoral degree in physics or a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree in physics. The degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, candidates who have obtained their degree at most three years ago should be considered. An extension of the three-year period is the starting point for the application deadline. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been obtained earlier. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade unions, etc. The applicant must have good knowledge of theory for unconventional superconductivity and quantum geometry applied in condensed matter. Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is a requirement.

Other desirable/merit qualifications We are looking for a person who is responsible, motivated, has demonstrated independence in research, and at the same time functions well in a research group. Importance will be placed on personal qualities, such as independence, motivation, as well as good organizational and collaborative skills. Importance will also be placed on the ability to publish scientific articles in high-quality journals and to give presentations at scientific meetings. A combination of analytical and numerical skills is advantageous. Previous postdoc experience is meritorious. Experience working with quantum geometry within the superconducting state is also meritorious.
