Postdoc in AI-driven modeling of high-entropy electrolytes
Description
The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education within the subject of chemistry. The department has 270 employees and a turnover of 330 million SEK. At the department's six programs, very successful research of high international class is conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international collaboration, and we see continued good growth within our subject area. The department has an educational mandate within engineering and civil engineering programs as well as master's programs. More information can be found on our website.
Tasks
The project's focus is to model several different types of high-entropy electrolytes at the molecular level for application in both lithium and sodium batteries. The goal is to understand how different choices of design and material relate to structure, dynamics, and performance.
A special focus is solvent-free electrolytes based on molten salts. The methods are primarily molecular dynamics simulations and smaller DFT calculations, but the software COSMO-RS may also be used.
The project combines computational chemistry, molecular modeling, and artificial intelligence. A central part of the work is to develop and use modern AI and machine learning methods to explore, understand, and optimize high-entropy electrolytes.
The postdoc will be part of Prof. Patrik Johansson's new research group at Uppsala University, part of the research environment Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC). This fundamental but application-inspired research project is funded by the Swedish Research Council within the framework of a Research Professor grant for ”Next generation batteries”.
The main tasks for a postdoc are to conduct research. They may also include teaching, up to 20% of working time, as well as supervision of and collaboration with doctoral students and students working on degree projects.
Qualifications
A doctoral degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science, or a foreign degree assessed to correspond to this. The degree must be awarded no later than the time of the employment decision.
Normally, the degree should have been awarded within the last three years, counted from the last application date. However, for special reasons, the degree may have been awarded earlier. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, positions of trust within trade unions, and similar circumstances.
Applications will primarily be assessed based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research and their scientific skill. The quality of each individual scientific work carries more weight than the number of publications.
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and competence complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and how they can contribute to its future development.
The applicant must have:
Excellent abilities in written and spoken English Documented experience in modeling at the molecular level. Documented experience of artificial intelligence and machine learning for materials science applications.
Other Desirable/Meritorious Qualifications
Experience in research within electrolytes and modern batteries is meritorious. Experience in applying artificial intelligence and machine learning within battery research is highly meritorious.
