Research Assistant in Bacteriology

The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM) at Uppsala universitet constitutes a broad international environment for research and teaching. At IMBIM, basic research is conducted in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, tumor biology, comparative genetics, functional genomics, immunology, bacteriology, and virology. Project Description

The holder of this position will work in a research group at Uppsala universitet, with support from Vetenskapsrådet. The purpose is to experimentally and theoretically analyze the barriers to horizontal genetic transfer in bacteria.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Work with the development of new bacterial strains using advanced genetic methods and whole-genome sequence analysis to understand the barriers to horizontal genetic transfer. The tasks include assisting with laboratory maintenance.

Qualification Requirements

Master's degree in infection biology, microbiology, or a related field. Documented experience and knowledge of methods within microbiology and bacterial genetics. The candidate is expected to take initiative and drive the project forward, but also to collaborate with other members of the group. Requirement for very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability such as ability to cooperate, sense of responsibility, precision, and good communication skills.

About the Employment

Fixed-term employment until 2027-02-28. The extent is 100%. Commencement as soon as possible or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
