Duties
The project concerns the preparation of photoactive metal complexes and their application in the catalysis of small molecule activation, and has components within organic chemistry, coordination chemistry, and spectroscopy. The systems will be characterized using traditional organic as well as electrochemical, photochemical, and spectroscopic methods. The researcher will develop lanthanide-catalyzed transformations. They will synthesize ligands and their metal complexes, perform chemical and spectroscopic characterization of the complexes, and evaluate their photophysical and photochemical behavior. They will write research reports and publications and present their research results at departmental and group meetings as well as national and international conferences.
The position includes supervision of undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, coordination of laboratory work and training of new research group members, as well as administrative tasks in connection with some of these duties. It may also include teaching, up to 20% of working time. The project will be partially carried out in collaboration with partners at Uppsala universitet. Representative new publications: J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2023, 145, 22555; Org. Lett. 2024, 26, 10752; Chem 2025, 102547; Chem, 2025, 102450.
Qualification requirements:
A doctoral degree in chemistry or a related field, or a foreign degree equivalent to a doctoral degree in chemistry or a related field. The degree must be awarded at the time of the employment decision. Postdoctoral research experience of at least one year is necessary.
The assessment of applications is primarily based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater weight is placed on the quality of the individual scientific work than on the number of publications.
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they can contribute to its future development.
Additional requirements:
- excellent oral and written English
- ability to work in teams
- experience in organic or inorganic synthesis and small molecule activation
- experience in photocatalysis, lanthanide chemistry, and lanthanide spectroscopy
Desirable qualifications:
Work experience from the chemical industry, previous experience in supervising doctoral and master's students, as well as participation in collaborative research projects are meritorious.
