Tasks

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious PhD student for theoretical studies of ion transport in solid battery materials. The goal of the project is to deepen the fundamental understanding of the mechanisms that govern ion transport in solid polymer electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries.

The research will focus on developing new and computationally efficient strategies for multiscale models, enabling systematic studies of ionic conductivity in complex battery materials on a large scale. Model-generated data will be used to identify important relationships between material structure and ionic conductivity using advanced data analysis and methods within machine learning. The expected scientific result is to develop guidelines for identifying and optimizing promising electrolyte materials as well as contributing to the development of future battery technologies.

The project is funded by Vetenskapsrådet (VR) and will be carried out within the Structure Chemistry research program at Uppsala universitet, which encompasses both the research environment for Materials Computational Chemistry and Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC). The PhD student will be an active part of both these environments.

The main tasks of PhD students are to engage in their research studies, which include active participation in research projects and PhD courses. The tasks may also include teaching and other commitments (at most 20%). Both shorter and longer business trips may occur.

Qualification Requirements

The applicant shall have:

a completed degree at an advanced level or completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at an advanced level (of which 15 higher education credits constitute independent work), with content relevant to the doctoral education or in some other way acquired within or outside the country knowledge mainly corresponding to the above a basic degree or equivalent as above within the field of chemistry, physics, materials and/or computer science very good knowledge of English, both oral and written.

Great importance will also be placed on personal qualities such as good collaborative ability, drive and independence, as well as how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to have the ability needed to complete the doctoral education.

Other Desirable/Meritorious Qualifications

A background in physics and/or chemistry with a specialization in materials science is desirable, as well as good knowledge of data handling and programming, as well as familiarity with computational chemistry methods.
