Uppsala universitet hereby announces a vacancy for a position as
Assistant Professor in Economics with a focus on Labour Economics
at the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences with approximately 100 employees from about ten countries. Annually, around 1,000 students participate in any of our courses at undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. Research at the department is primarily focused on labour economics, macroeconomics, political economy, and public economics. Researchers at the department are often hired as experts in public inquiries and in the media, and they collaborate in many ways with the surrounding society.
Employment Period
Employment as an Assistant Professor can be held for a maximum of four years with the possibility of promotion to Professor. Those employed as Assistant Professor shall, after written application, be promoted to Professor if, after peer review, they are judged to meet the qualification requirements established by the respective area or faculty board and as stated in the information about the vacancy. Other criteria for promotion to Professor are found in the Employment Regulations for Uppsala universitet and in the Faculty of Social Sciences' supplementary guidelines (section 2f).
Job Duties
Research in economics, with a particular focus on research at the interface between labour economics and macroeconomics, as well as teaching in economics, with a particular focus on labour economics and macroeconomics at an advanced level. Teaching includes course responsibility, supervision, and course administration. The employment may also include administrative duties. The proportion of teaching amounts to a maximum of 50 percent.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible for employment as Assistant Professor is the person who has obtained a doctoral degree or has achieved equivalent scientific competence and meets the requirements for pedagogical skill. Primarily, applicants will be considered who have obtained a doctoral degree or have reached equivalent competence at most seven years before the end of the application period. Furthermore, the applicant must fulfill what is prescribed in Uppsala universitet's employment regulations (§ 39) and the Faculty of Social Sciences' guidelines (section 2 e).
It is required that the pedagogical skill, scientific competence, and professional skill are relevant to the subject matter of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment.
According to Uppsala universitet's employment regulations, it further applies as a general eligibility requirement for teachers that the applicant must have the ability to cooperate and otherwise meets the requirements for suitability needed to perform the employment well.
For eligibility, a documented ability to teach in English is required.
