About the position

Our QA-Core team exists so that every engineering team at Upgrade can test its software quickly and have confidence in the results. We are looking for a senior QA automation engineer to design and build test automation infrastructure, tools, as well as agentic solutions to increase engineering productivity. This is not a traditional product QA role — it is a build role. You will work closely with our product teams to understand their automation needs, design services from scratch, deploy them to production clusters, and take ownership of them.

This position is fully remote and open to candidates based in Canada.

Our core technologies include

Java, Python, Kubernetes, Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, TestNG, Maven, Git, Jenkins, ArgoCD, SQL, Grafana, SumoLogic, Docker, Gatling, Claude Code, MCP server

What you will do

Design and be responsible for the automation framework for functional and performance testing.

Build agents to automate existing QA/testing workflows and reduce engineering friction.

Build the applications and services that automation depends on, deploy them, and operate them in production environments.

Take prototypes through to completion. Build timely demonstrations, gather feedback from the teams that will use them, and iterate through successive versions until they are robust, monitored, and operating with mature quality.

Identify gaps in existing frameworks and tools, and iterate toward solutions that fill them.

What we are looking for

5 to 7 years or more of experience in building production software, with demonstrated expertise in test infrastructure, test frameworks, and developer tooling, as well as good practical knowledge of platform engineering.

Proven experience in building agentic solutions and test automation frameworks from scratch — designed, delivered, iterated, and adopted as part of the way other engineers work.

Proficiency with agentic coding tools as part of your daily work: ability to orchestrate multiple agents to execute tasks and to review pull requests (PRs) generated by agents.

Hands-on experience with micro-services, Kubernetes, and deployment lifecycle management.

Ability to transform an ambiguous problem statement into a well-defined and defensible solution, independently.

What we offer you

Competitive salary and stock option plan

Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage

Flexible paid time off

Growth and professional development opportunities

Paid parental leave

Health and wellness initiatives
