Closing Date:  October 15, 2026 Job Summary: The Division of Endocrinology is an academic and service unit within the department of medicine at Toronto General Hospital /University Health Network (UHN) serving the endocrine needs of the Toronto central area. We are also a referral resource for throughout the greater Toronto area and the province for complex diabetes care including type 1 diabetes, insulin pumps, diabetes and obesity, steroid induced diabetes. Our team includes endocrinology staff, residents and fellows, a nurse practitioners, certified diabetes educators RN’s and dietitians. UHN has developed comprehensive PA Medical Directives, a PA Council and leadership structure to assist PAs and their supervisors with on-boarding, organizational issues and support. The Physician Assistant (PA) will be based at Toronto General hospital and provide patient care in a team setting, both in outpatient clinics and inpatient diabetes consult teams.  The PA will perform clinical assessments, investigations, symptom management and work with the team on follow-up plans and transitions in care from hospital to outpatient clinics and primary community care. The PA will be offered training and educational opportunities both at orientation and also at an ongoing basis, and will be expected to develop their potential as a leader and teacher in the program.  Duties: Applying theoretical knowledge and advanced clinical expertise to provide excellent care for patients with diabetes and other endocrine conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.. The PA will play a vital role on the interprofessional team and will have quality improvement, research and administrative responsibilities. There will also be opportunities to participate in policy or clinical pathway development as well as education and professional development. The PA will interact with other team members including staff endocrinologists, consulting physicians, other PAs, nurse practitioners, trainees (residents and fellows), nurses and other clinical and allied health staff. The PA will perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Must be a new graduate (Physician Assistant Career Start Program) At minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Physician Assistant program or recognized equivalent Must be a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) and/or an American Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) Must be a current member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA) Maintain certification and CCPA/PA-C designation by completing the required CPD/CME credits Eligible to work in Canada/Ontario Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives Proficient and appropriate use of diagnostic and procedural skills Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team Demonstrated ability to perform well in critical and high stress situations Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning Demonstrated commitment to patient safety Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills Willingness to work with the supervising physician to adjust medical directives as needed and evolve the role to meet the patient/program needs
