About the position

Kulturhistorisk museum is entering a very exciting time of growth and change at our exhibition sites Vikingtidsmuseet and Historisk museum. We are now seeking an engaged and proactive web editor for a two-year project position. As a web editor, you will play a central role in promoting one of Norway's most exciting cultural projects both nationally and internationally. You will be responsible for developing, publishing, and optimizing content on the Vikingtidsmuseet website in collaboration with the museum's other web editor. The project period lasts until the opening and a period after the museum is operational.

An extensive web design and communication project is currently underway for Vikingtidsmuseet, focusing on design and content. The website shall be a digital destination for knowledge and inspiration about the Viking Age, and a first encounter for the audience journey before the museum.

The position's tasks are linked to defined milestones in the museum's communication strategy for the opening and operation of Vikingtidsmuseet. The work tasks are built around these milestones, and established routines will be transferred to the section's permanent web editor function after the opening.

Vikingtidsmuseet is a research museum and is, together with Historisk museum, part of Kulturhistorisk museum at Universitetet i Oslo. You will collaborate closely with the museum's other web editor, who is responsible for the website of Historisk museum.

  • Operational editorial responsibility for content and further development of the Vikingtidsmuseet website in accordance with the project's milestones.
  • Analysis of web statistics, user behavior, and goal achievement, as well as SEO work and content optimization.
  • Assist publishers across the museum's sections and contribute to knowledge sharing and quality assurance.
  • Establish and evaluate routines and templates for ongoing editorial maintenance of the website, which will be handed over to the section's permanent web editor function after the opening.
  • Other tasks as agreed with the section leader.

Some work outside of ordinary working hours must be expected, especially in the period around the opening.

  • experience with search engine optimization (SEO) and the use of analysis and insight tools such as Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, or equivalent
  • good digital system understanding and experience with publishing solutions (CMS)
  • very good written communication skills in Norwegian and English. Competence in both bokmål and nynorsk is an advantage.
  • experience with video and image processing

Emphasis is placed on the applicant having relevant and up-to-date experience from the last five years.

It is an advantage if you have

  • relevant background from commercial business, where digital platforms are actively used to reach concrete commercial goals
  • knowledge of universal design and accessibility requirements for websites
  • experience with work within intranets and internal communication
  • experience working in large organizations or complex enterprises

We are looking for you who
