Video: https://youtu.be/M5n6RnScNgA University Lecturer (temporary position) in linguistics The Department of Linguistics, Literary Studies and Aesthetics invites applicants for a six-month 100% position as a university lecturer in linguistics, with the possibility of extension if needed. The start date for the position is January 1, 2027. About the department The Department of Linguistics, Literary Studies and Aesthetics has around 80 academic employees, 17 administrative employees, around 40 ph.d. candidates and 13 postdocs. The department encompasses the subjects general literary studies, digital culture, classical subjects, art history, Nordic literature, language and subject didactics, Old Norse philology, Norwegian as a second language, general linguistics and theatre studies. The department is also a proud host to two centers, the Center for Digital Storytelling and the Center for Norwegian Academic Language, and for three of the most important dictionaries in Norway. In linguistics, the department offers both bachelor's and master's programs, and also collaborates with the program in cognitive science. Research in linguistics at the department includes, among other things, sign language, corpus methods, experimental psycholinguistics, language typology, computational linguistic approaches and statistics. Tasks: The position includes teaching, supervision and assessment in linguistics at both bachelor's and master's levels. Teaching tasks will be distributed based on the competence of the person appointed, and may include subjects within syntax, morphology, computer programming for linguistics, statistics for linguistics and cognitive science, as well as the multimodality of language. The position also includes administrative tasks at the department. It may also be relevant with teaching, supervision and assessment tasks at other departments within the Faculty of Humanities. Qualifications and qualities: The applicant must have a Norwegian master's degree or equivalent education in linguistics or a relevant field (for example linguistics combined with computer science, information science, psychology and/or cognitive science). Applicants must have very good knowledge of English. It is an advantage if one can also teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. Previous experience in general linguistics (for example phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics) is an advantage, as well as specialized competence within one or more of the subject areas related to the topics mentioned above. Basic pedagogical competence and experience with supervising students at the university level is an advantage. This includes completed formal university pedagogical training, as well as basic skills in planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision, or equivalent practical teaching experience. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to combine independent work with collaboration, and on the ability to engage students. Personal qualities will be taken into consideration. The person appointed must have their daily workplace at the University of Bergen and adhere to current guidelines and regulations. Salary as a university lecturer (code 1009), which currently corresponds to a gross annual salary of NOK 653,000 - 693,000 in a full-time position. Further salary increments occur based on seniority in the position. For particularly qualified applicants, a higher salary may be considered.
