Scientific Computing Expert M/F
We are looking for an M/F expert in scientific computing to join the Université de technologie de Compiègne (UTC). You will have the opportunity to: Work in a pleasant and stimulating environment, serving the university community (students, researchers, teacher-researchers…), Join a motivated team, Benefit from working conditions that allow for a good work-life balance. Missions The scientific computing expert mobilizes mathematical and numerical methods to perform the simulation of a solid mechanics and/or fluid mechanics model. They optimize their programming on a target machine in an eventually HPC context and propose suitable tools. Main Activities Lead technical projects that contribute, through calculation methods, to the resolution of a scientific problem in its technical, human, and administrative dimensions
Provide expertise to mechanics researchers in the use of mathematical methods and computer techniques for the modeling and simulation of solid and fluid mechanics problems
Guide the choice of relevant methods and tools based on the problem posed and the architecture of the target computing machines
Design methods for modeling, calculation, and visualization of results
Evaluate the quality of codes, the quality of results, and their interpretation
Participate in national and international research projects and associated publications
Ensure the management of the computing data lifecycle, their organization, and the monitoring of their exploitation until their visualization
Animate the user community (about a hundred researchers and doctoral students) of the intensive computing platform, and transmit knowledge and skills in scientific computing to them through presentations and training
Participate in the evolution and operation of the high-performance computing platform
Define technological monitoring on the evolution of hardware architectures and the systems concerned.
Additional Information Application dates from 16/09/2026 to 21/10/2026 Contract type and provisional recruitment date Position open to Category A research engineer personnel, via statutory means (transfer, secondment) or contractual means (one-year fixed-term contract, possible extension that may lead to a CDI) – immediate vacancy Gross monthly salary Depending on status or via the contractual route according to experience For civil servants, RIFSEEP: category A - Group 3 For contractual agents, gross monthly salary from 2,289 euros to 4,110 euros, depending on experience Working hours 37 hours and 30 minutes/week - 1,607 hours/year Environment and working context The activity is carried out on the platforms of the Roberval laboratory (approximately 80 pieces of equipment), for this position in the mechanical engineering department and more specifically on the intensive computing platform. This includes the Plateforme Inter-Laboratoires de Calcul et de Modélisation Multidisciplinaire (PILCAM2) used by the Roberval, BMBI, Heudiasyc laboratories and the Laboratoire de Mathématiques LMAC. As part of their missions, the recruited person will ensure an interface role between: on one hand, the technical personnel assigned to the platforms, and the permanent and non-permanent researchers, primarily from the digital mechanics team of the Roberval laboratory; on the other hand, the central bodies of the laboratory (management, administrative pole, and financial pole), the support directorates of the UTC (financial affairs directorate, real estate directorate), and the H&S services of the UTC. Beyond the relationships to be established within the UTC, the recruited person will develop all the necessary external relationships within the framework of their missions (suppliers, funders, other research laboratories, industrial partners, ...), both at the national and international levels. Laboratory The Roberval laboratory is a research unit of the Université de technologie de Compiègne. This laboratory operates in the field of mechanics, energy, and electricity. The activity of the Roberval laboratory is based on the synergy between upstream research and applied research, to respond to the major challenges of society: tomorrow's transport; industrial renewal; energy. The scientific activity of the laboratory is organized around 5 teams with complementary skills: digital mechanics; acoustics and vibrations; materials and surfaces; mechatronics, energy, electricity, integration; integrated systems: product/process. Work is carried out in close collaboration with industry partners, notably industrial ones. Several platforms and demonstrators, developed within the laboratory, illustrate this desire to confront fundamental research with the complexity of applications. To this are added common services, which provide administrative and technical support to laboratory members on a daily basis. The Roberval laboratory is particularly involved in two industrial chairs, one international chair, and one junior professor chair, as well as in four joint laboratories with socio-economic partners. It cultivates close links with the Alliance Sorbonne Université through several institutes and initiatives; it is also involved in many thematic networks with the CNRS, or in the International Research Project ADONIS. https://roberval.utc.fr/ Department The Ingénierie mécanique department aims to train generalist engineers capable of meeting the expectations of actors in any industrial sector requiring the skills of a mechanical engineer. https://www.utc.fr/formations/diplome-dingenieur/ingenierie-mecanique-im/
