Research Associate in the BMDNow Project
...be right in the middle of it
We are looking for your support for collaboration in the research project BMDNow in the Klinik für Radiologie und Nuklearmedizin at the earliest possible date. The position is initially limited to 2 years. Publications from the project are planned. Additionally, a doctorate in the Faculty of Medicine is possible and will be supported.
BMDNow is developing software as a medical device (Class IIa) for the retrospective determination of bone mineral density (BMD) in the spine from existing CT data ("phantomless QCT"). The goal is a higher detection rate of osteopenia and osteoporosis. The core of the software is the automatic detection and segmentation of the vertebral bodies as well as the sub-segmentation of the areas relevant to bone density. Additionally, the software detects vertebral fractures and embedded foreign material. The aim is commercial exploitation as a medical device, for example, through a later university spin-off.
Look forward to working in a compact, largely autonomous team consisting of two radiologists, a Lead Regulatory Affairs, and one employee for project management and IT integration. In addition, there is support from medical staff and scientific assistants. Model development will lie largely in your hands.
Your tasks:
- Further development and training of the Deep-Learning models in PyTorch
- Construction and maintenance of reproducible training, evaluation, and data pipelines
- Quantitative validation against expert-annotated reference standards
- Publication of results and provision of methodological evidence for regulatory documentation
