Academic Councilor / Academic Councilor on a temporary basis (m/f/d) Focus: Human iPSC-based Disease Modelling
Institut für Humangenetik
The Institut für Humangenetik at the Universität Regensburg, which deals with various aspects of the hereditary basis of different human diseases, is one of the bridges between clinical medical disciplines and the natural sciences.
Key FactsStart:
at the earliest possible date
Scope:
Full-time 40 h / week
Remuneration:
Pay grade A 13 BayBesG
Limitation:
limited for 3 years
We offer:
- The Institut für Humangenetik at the Universität Regensburg combines modern genetic diagnostics with innovative research on hereditary diseases
- For the strategic further development of our disease-related research, we are looking for a scientifically proven personality to further develop a platform for human iPSC-based disease models
- Further information: https://www.humangenetik.uni-regensburg.de/
- In this position, you will take on a central scientific role in the establishment and use of patient-specific and isogenic iPSC models
- The focus is on differentiation into neural progenitor cells (NPCs), iPSC-derived neural cell models and, in the future, organoids, as well as their functional and molecular characterization
- The models are also intended to be used to identify disease-relevant signaling pathways and molecular target structures, as well as to develop and investigate potential therapeutic approaches preclinically
- You will work closely with the experimental, clinical, and bioinformatics groups of the institute and coordinate several disease-related modeling projects
- We offer extensive opportunities for professional and personal development
- The development of your own scientific profile, linked to the research focuses of the institute, as well as an intended habilitation, are expressly supported
- The position offers excellent prerequisites for independent third-party funding applications and participation in national and international collaborative projects
Your tasks:
- Coordination of iPSC-based disease modeling at the Institut für Humangenetik
- Establishment, optimization, and standardization of the culture, quality control, and differentiation of human iPS cells into NPCs, induced neurons, and, in the future, organoids
- Planning and implementation of functional analyses, particularly regarding proliferation, cell cycle, migration, neuronal differentiation, neurite outgrowth, synapse formation, and disease-relevant cellular phenotypes
- Further development of genome-editing strategies, particularly CRISPR/Cas-based knock-in, correction, and isogenic control models
- Integration of cell biological, imaging, and molecular methods with genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and other multi-omics analyses
- Close scientific cooperation with the working groups of the institute, particularly in projects on RNA biology, neurogenetic diseases, and hereditary tumor diseases
- Technical guidance and supervision of scientific staff, doctoral students, and technical staff
- Development of your own complementary research focuses and active participation in publications, third-party funding applications, and collaborative projects
- Participation in teaching as well as in the training and supervision of students
Your profile:
- Completed university degree in biology, biomedicine, molecular medicine, human biology, biotechnology, or a comparable subject, as well as a relevant doctorate
- Several years of practical experience with human pluripotent stem cells and their differentiation into disease-relevant cell types; proven experience with NPCs and/or neuronal models is particularly desirable
- Experience with three-dimensional cell culture models or organoids is an advantage
- Sound knowledge in cell and molecular biology, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, Western Blot, qPCR, as well as quantitative phenotyping
- Experience with CRISPR/Cas genome editing and the quality control of genetically modified iPSC lines is desired
- Interest in linking functional disease models with RNA-seq, single-cell analyses, proteomics, and other omics technologies
- Experience in supervising staff and coordinating parallel research projects
- Authorship of scientific publications and proven potential for securing competitive third-party funding
- Very good English skills; good German skills or the willingness to acquire them
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills as well as enjoyment of interdisciplinary cooperation
- Scientific curiosity, initiative, sense of responsibility, and a structured, reproducible way of working
- Willingness to establish common standards for iPSC culture, differentiation, quality control, and data documentation
- Strong interest in translational research and in the development of patient-proximal models for rare diseases and cancer predisposition syndromes
- Ability to strategically further develop experimental platforms and scientifically merge several projects
- Provided that the civil service law requirements are met, appointment to a temporary civil service relationship is intended. Otherwise, employment in a fixed-term, private law employment relationship may also be possible.
