Research Associate (Postdoc) (m/f/d) in Theoretical Physics

The Faculty of Physics at Universität Bielefeld is advertising a Postdoc position in the field of Lattice-QCD at finite temperature and density. The position is part of the Collaborative Research Center SFB-TR 211 "Stark wechselwirkende Materie". The successful candidate will work on project A01 "Der chirale Phasenübergang bei niedriger Nettobaryonendichte". Collaboration with scientists within the SFB and international collaborations such as the HotQCD collaboration is intended and offers an inspiring research environment. The research project includes Lattice-QCD simulations with various discretization schemes near the chiral phase transition and with imaginary chemical potentials to investigate universal critical behavior in QCD. The position is initially limited to two years, with the possibility of an extension for a third year.

Your Tasks Research (78 %):

• Development of the Lattice-QCD code SIMULATeQCD
• Execution of Lattice-QCD simulations and analysis programs in the context of the chiral QCD transition
• Evaluation and interpretation of results, including analytical calculations
• Participation in publications and presentation of scientific results at conferences
• Participation in meetings within the framework of SFB-TR 211 and other workshops

Teaching (22%):

• Participation in teaching in the Faculty of Physics (4 LVS)

The employment promotes scientific qualification; opportunities for scientific (further) qualification will be provided.

Your Profile What we expect

• completed university degree (Master or equivalent) in Physics
• completed doctorate in theoretical physics by the start of employment
• demonstrable prior knowledge in Lattice field theory
• experience in programming and numerical methods, ideally also on high-performance computers
• very good written and spoken English skills
• independent, responsible, and committed way of working
• cooperative and team-oriented way of working
• strong presentation and moderation skills
