PRODUCTION SHOP PLANNER (SHEET METAL MECHANIC)
You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP PLANNER (A/C EQUIPMENT MECHANIC) in the Service Shop (Code 990), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Major duties
- You will reorder material or obtain it from an alternate source.
- You will compile work packages that consist of Task Group Instructions (TGI’s), drawings, technical requirements and shop processes/procedures.
- You will identify effective application of trade resources, efficient utilization of manpower, material, equipment and special tools needed to accomplish specified work tasks.
- You will prepare material request forms as necessary.
- You will maintain files of manufacturers’ catalogs, parts, lists, material specifications and similar documents.
- You will assist supervisors in determining appropriate material and suggest substitute material to engineering personnel as appropriate.
Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSTITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Experience controlling the flow of a wide variety of commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to and from various production/industrial shops. Experience scheduling work in various production shops or outside industrial work sites and eliminating backlogs. Experience overhauling refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to include disassembly, inspection, and replacement of defective parts. Experience analyzing work plans, design plans, availability of information and/or man-time estimates. Experience performing assembly, installation, and repair of equipment. Experience reviewing work orders, instructions, drawings, reading blueprints, design specifications and sketches to determine materials or equipment needed to accomplish work.
