Pipefitter

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Perform the full range of tasks associated with the journeyman level pipefitter, typical of which are the following: Plan and lay out work utilizing blueprints or lay-out sketches when provided: determines tools required and estimates necessary materials.

Major duties

• Installs, modifies, maintains and repairs new and existing high-pressure piping systems and equipment and higher temperature water systems.
• Plans and lays out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure, reduction, expansion and operation of piping systems and equipment.
• Determines tools required and estimates materials, such as fittings, in the sizes, types and lengths needed, measures, cuts, bends, hangs, threads and joins pipe.
• Determines and places equipment at proper levels and points in the systems and joins, seals and test systems and equipment for proper pressure, leak-free joints and operation.
• Operates a government vehicle to transport tools, equipment and co-workers to and from worksites.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Pipefitter ~ without more than normal supervision. This includes - Plan and lay out work utilizing blueprints or lay-out sketches. Determines tools required and estimates necessary materials, such as pipe, fittings, in the sizes, types of lengths needed. Perform general repairs and replacement of new equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, and where systems or equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items over 50 pounds. Working Conditions Works inside and outside, and sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather and in areas where bad smelling fumes are present, and usually dirty, dusty and greasy. May be required to wear protective equipment.
