About the Division

The Commercial Distribution Division is responsible for the growth of commercial businesses across multiple channels including Bancassurance, Intermediaries, Direct channels and Partnerships. It is also responsible for providing holistic, bespoke insurance solutions for its commercial customers, delivering service excellence and increasing market awareness of UOI to achieve customers’ trust and recognition.

Job Purpose

As the Head of Commercial Distribution Division, you will be responsible for leading a team of professionals to provide exceptional service to support revenue growth and to achieve customer satisfaction. This includes servicing support to grow new customers and retain existing customers, and drive transformation initiatives to support the Company’s strategic thrusts.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of professionals to achieve the GWP and underwriting profit budget set by the Company.
  • Identify, establish, and nurture partnerships with key stakeholders to promote the sale of insurance products.
  • Plan and execute new product development initiatives for business growth.
  • Evaluate, underwrite and quote risks for commercial classes in line with Company’s underwriting guidelines and treaty programme.
  • Place facultative reinsurance where required.
  • Develop and communicate a clear vision and strategic direction for the vision, aligning with the organisation’s overall goals.
  • Identify training and development needs of staff and to ensure staffs are adequately trained to obtain maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Build and nuture high-performing teams by fostering an inclusive and empowering work environment.
  • Conduct technical training within the Division to strengthen and enhance underwriting skills.
  • Ensure division’s workforce planning aligns with current and future business needs.
  • Review work procedures, support Project Management Office (PMO) with process and technological development to optimize operational efficiencies.
  • Undertake any other assignments as allocated to contribute to the overall corporate objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related discipline
  • Professional insurance qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role in general insurance
  • Sound understanding of the insurance industry, including regulations and market dynamics.
  • Strong sales and negotiation abilities, with proven track record to meet or exceed targets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with bank partners and customers.
  • Ability to conduct effective training sessions on insurance products.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Driven and proven leader who can guide and motivate the team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
